The first thing a Bosch dishwasher does when you start a program is run the waste pump. This ensures that any residual water and waste is removed from the machine before the wash program begins.

The hum you can hear is most likely the pump motor trying to drive the impeller. This can become clogged with waste and seize up, preventing the wash cycle from starting. There is an easy way to check this:

(It's easier to do this with the washer empty)

1: Select a wash program

2. Press "Start" and wait for the humming noise

3. Open the door and pull the bottom basket forward or lift it out completely

4. Find and lift the float (the plastic dome/mushroom in the bottom of the washer) all the way up

5. Keep the float lifted and the dishwasher should pump out. Stop if/when you hear a gurgling noise as this means it's empty and pumping mostly air.

6. If the pump doesn't start, lift the float again for about 1-2 seconds then let it drop again for 1-2 seconds. Repeat this 10-20 times and see if the pump starts. The repeated stop/start signals to the pump motor can sometimes free a seized impeller.

If the pump does start, keep lifting and dropping the float switch (1-2 seconds each time) to see if the pump starts every time. If it does, you should be OK to use the washer, but further action is needed to stop the problem returning.

When you've done all this, post the results here and I'll advise you what to do to fix the problem or prevent it from returning.

sounds like your main circulation pump is not working, if it is humming when it is supposed to start, sounds like it is getiing power, so probably not the control circuits, can you measure voltage to pump?
if you are getting 120 there, probably pump motor is dead

The dishwash is not washing, it's running but there is no water. The washing cycle is completed but nothing has happen, this recently started.

Sounds like a bad water valve or the water supply is cut off. If the water supply is not cut off then try hooking up 120 volts to the water valve. It should buzz or hum and let water in. If no water goes in then change the valve.

GE diswasher hums but will not start cycle and starts to smell ho

Hi, Have your freind check and see if the water supply line under the sink has been turned on. The hum you are hearing could be the inlet valve. Please let me know if this has been helpfull or if I can assist you further.

Thanks

I have a GE Potscrubber dishwasher that only hums, won't run

I have a portable that had the same problem. I called a repairman and he turned a fan blade on the motor. Mine is located on the right side about 12" in. It gets hung up when it is run often enough. If your problem is the same is mine all you have to do is turn the blade and it works like a charm. Hope this helps.

Can't get the dishwasher to start!

Sounds like the pump seal is stuck. Cut the power and look at the back of the motor. There will be a cooling fan in the end of the motor. take the fan and keep rotating it until the seals break loose.
