Did you verify if the graphics card that you have is compatible with the operating system of your computer? If yes, there's a possibility that the correct driver is not loading in your computer.

First, verify if the disc that came with the graphics card contains the Win XP SP3 driver.

Looks like you've got a virus while playing, though that only would happen if your running an illegal copy of the game.

Otherwise while the game hanged, and you inevitably rebooted, the card drivers were damaged and erased from the hard drive. You might be now in low resolution standard VGA that's activated by windows when the drivers fail.

You should be able to still access internet explorer to browse the internet, from there you'll need to go to www.ati.com to download the most recent drivers for your card and reinstall them.

You definitely have a video driver problem.

Try downloading the latest drivers for that machine from the Acer web site here:

...if you do this (or have done it) and it does not work properly, try reinstalling the operating system and then installing those drivers fresh after install. That should work. If it doesn't, look in the Acer user's manual for the machine's maximum resolution (for example 1024x768), and then changing the video driver to one of the standard Microsoft drivers, for only that resolution. The problem you are having above seems to be that you tried this solution, but loaded a MS driver for the wrong resolution. So you are probably pretty close on it.
