Lexmark Wireless X4850 All-In-One Inkjet Printer Logo
Anonymous Posted on May 30, 2008

Fax issues I have USRobotics wireless router, that is used for printing and laptop. My desktop is a hp pavilliona810n,which the router is connected to. The lexmark is working great, but I need to set up the fax. The desktop has no phone modem, nor is there a slot for one. Can't the router be used as the connection? The whole point of purchasing an "all in one" was to eliminate the old fax machine! Please help! Thanks in advance, Jim

Thanks for the response! I managed to do this myself,I was not aware that your PC must have a "phone modem" card! Once I installed one I already had on hand, it went flawlessly! Windows XP likes this printer!!! Nice "all in one" printer, for sure. I used the Lexmark to replace our Epson scanner and seperate printer, AND our clunky old fax mach. Thanks for such a helpful website. Regards, Jim

How to connect hp pavilion to brother mfc9560cdw without router

This model Bother printer has a 10baseT LAN connection and can be connected to your LAN network and to your HP laptop via the wireless router. Connect a LAN cable from the printer to the wireless router.
To print from your HP laptop, check the IP address range your wireless router issues to your wireless network, it maybe 192.168.1.*** then configure the brother printer with a fixed IP address with the same IP address range but higher address eg. 192.168.1.10 so it does not clash with any other IP addresses.
Next install the Brother printer driver normally.
Then configure the Brother printer Properties.
Click Start - Printers and faxes - right click on the Brother printer - click Properties - Port tab - click Add Port - Standard TCP/IP port -
Port Name eg. 192.168.1.10
Printer name eg Brother
Click OK
Then do a TEST print if it does not work then the IP address is probably incorrect.

My US Robotics USR5461 Wireless MaxG router needs to be rebooted quite often (sometimes once or twice a day) to get internet access back. The status page says it's connected to the internet but I can't...

Hello,

Considering the frequency you have to reboot the router to get it to work may indicate a glitch with the WAN gateway.

I recommend fully resetting the router and setting the wireless network up again.
You should be able to reset the router using a pin and sticking it in the pin hole on the back of the router near the power source.

Thanks,

Pat

You might want to check your firmware version to make sure you have the lastest.

BETA Firmware Version 3.93.35.0.9This firmware fixes the following issues:
  • Printing issues with CUPS version 1.2.
USR5461a-v4.3.93.35.09.usr 1.8 MB 06-05-08

Firmware Version 3.93.35.0.8This firmware fixes the following issues:
  • DST (Daylight Saving time) Firewall issue with how IAC (Internet Access Control) works.
  • PPPoE server disconnect/reconnect
  • PPPoE inactivity timer
  • PPTP client disconnect/reconnect
  • backup/restore settings
Note: If upgrading from Version 3.91.37.0.3, follow these instructions before proceeding.
  1. With a thin tool, such as a paper clip, briefly press the RESET button on the back of the router.
  2. Wait about 30 seconds.
  3. Continue with instructions below.
Important: To ensure a successful upgrade, please perform the firmware upgrade from a client that is physically wired to the router. A wireless client may become disassociated from the router during the upgrade process resulting in an incomplete upgrade.
  1. Download this file to a temporary location on your computer's hard disk drive.
  2. To upgrade your USRobotics Wireless MAXg Router with all operating systems, open an Internet browser and enter the router's IP address. The default IP address of the router is 192.168.2.1
  3. Enter your User name and Password. Click OK.
  4. Click Device in the main menu.
  5. Under the "Upgrade Router" section, enter the location of the USR5461-v3.93.35.0.8.usr file in the text box, or click the Browse button to search for the file. Then click the Upgrade button to begin the upgrade process.
  6. When the upgrade process is complete, the router will reboot. To re-establish a connection with your router, wait approximately 15 seconds and click Continue.

To install a HP printer (with built-in Jetdirect print server) as a network printer you need to do the following -
1. Open the printer’s menu and enable the Network Card – then configure the IP address of the network card so it matches the IP range of your network. Eg. If your IP's are 192.168.0.xxx then set the network card to a high number say 100 then set the Subnet Mask IP address to 255.255.255.0

If you have a wireless router then check the IP addresses that the router issues to the computers on your network and configure the IP address in the printer accordingly.
2. Install the HP printer driver on your computer/s using the LPT printer port.
3. Connect the printer with a LAN cable to the network hub/router.
4. Click on Printers and Faxes - right click on the HP printer and click on Properties.
5. Click on Ports and click on Add Port.
6. In available ports - click on Standard TCP/IP Port and then Configure port.
7. Tick the IP box and type in the IP address of the HP's printer IP address.
8. Click OK and tick Enable bi-directional support and then OK

Install the HP printer driver on every computer on your network and configure the printer’s TCP/IP port as previously detailed.

Do a test print page to check the printer.
You can now print from any computer on your network.

LexmarLk X4850 fax wireless set-up

Printing: since Lexmark say you can either connect wirelessly or wired and not both, you must either connect your daughter's machine to the hub by wire or yourself to the printer wirelessly.

Fax: this will need a phone line.

Desktop won't connect with printer connected to laptop

Make sure both computers can share files and can ping each other, if not, it's just a firewall issue. Try to disable your firewall first.
