It is the router that you need to configure, to define:

* SSID (a "name")

* an encryption-level (use: WPA)

* a password/security-key

for your wireless network.

Then, you can connect to your network.

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to connect to the Belkin Router Wirelessly and it is asking you for a Security Key, all you need to do is to access the router settings page and look for the Network Key or Passphrase.

To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.2.1, the Default password is blank

Click on Security under Wireless and look for the Security Key or Network Key (Passphrase)

Thanks for using Fixya.

I own a belkin n150 router. i've used ti on my laptop and now i bought a another computer and it won't let me access my router. it is asking for a security key. any idea how to access it or find it?

Your wireless card in her laptop needs to be configured with the router's wireless settings eg. the SSID and encryption key
The encryption key (security key) is in your wireless router, without this key the wireless router won't allow the laptop to connect to this wireless router.
The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.

How can I retrive my password or wep key off my Belkin wirelless router I bought a new laptop and can't acess my router

Use a wired computer to access the setup page of the router.

On the browser's address bar, type 192.168.2.1.

By default, leave the password field blank.

Once on the setup page of the router, go to Wireless then Security. You can get the WEP key from this screen.

Or if you would like to turn off wireless security, just change the security mode.

However, I strongly suggest to enable wireless security so that other people will not be able to use your wireless network.

I hope this helps!

I have a Virgin Cable Broadband which I use with a

Log into your router via web browser (usually routers IP is 192.168.1.1). The default password is usually "admin" and leave the username blank, admin again. Another way to figure out what IP address is assigned to your router is to click START > RUN > Type CMD and hit enter. At command prompt type IPCONFIG. The DEFAULT GATEWAY is the IP address that is assigned to your router.
From main configuration page, click WIRELESS
Then click WIRELESS SECURITY
For security mode, choose WEP
Keep your default Transmit Key to (1) and set your encryption level to either 64 bits or 128 bits. (128 bits is more secure then 64 bit and much harder to crack.
Now you can either create a passphrase which will automatically generate key values or you can set your own key values. (You only have to set KEY 1)
Click SAVE SETTINGS
IMPORTANT Then write the key down so when ya wanna log on from wherever ya enter key and ya can enter.

I have forgottten my Belkin Wireless security key and need to instore wireless on my new lapton but it keeps on asking me of my security key. What do I need to do

If you hold the reset button in for over 45 seconds, you will totally reset all the settings on the router, thereby eliminating the wireless security. This will allow you to access your router and re-establish security. Remember when you do though to attach an ethernet cable to the router to change your settings, because when changes are made, the wireless capability is the first thing to get shut off before it resets.

Security problems

You are looking for the WEP key that is configured on your router. Use your PC that's connected via ethernet, go to the config web page for the router and somewhere on the wireless security settings you will find the WEP key that was configured for your wireless network.
