My computer not powering up and the power supply is good because I tested it another computer. Can you please help me.

  1. Verify that the power supply voltage switch is set correctly. If the input voltage for the power supply does not match the correct setting for your country, your computer may not power on at all.
  2. Check for disconnected computer power cable connections. A loose or unplugged power cable is one of the top reasons why a computer doesn't turn on.
  3. Replace the computer's power cable. This is the power cable that runs between the computer case and the power source.

Do not know how to connect power supply

WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL.

Unplug all electronic cords connected to the computer.

At no time during the installation should any cords be connected to the computer.

Remove the screws holding the computer cover case, and remove the cover case.


Locate the computer power supply box, which looks like a large box out of which a bundle of wires run and connects to the power cord jack on the outside of the computer case.


Unplug the power cables from the internal devices connected to it.

Be careful not to damage any of the sensitive control boards or devices inside the computer, and be certain to remember--write it down if you need to--what devices will need reconnecting to the new power supply when you finish the installation.


Unscrew the power supply from the inside of the computer case and remove it. Check the original power supply's red voltage switch for the correct setting.

It should read 120 or 240 if you live within the United States.


Confirm this setting as the correct voltage setting for your power outlets.

Make sure your new power supply gets set to the correct voltage setting before you install it.


If it cannot be set to the correct voltage, do not proceed with the installation or you may damage your computer.

Return the new power supply and buy one that is compatible with the voltage requirements.


Install the new power supply, reattach the screws that will hold it in the proper place inside the computer.

Reattach the power cables that come from the new power supply to the devices that were connected to the old power supply.


Make sure all of these connections are firmly in place before you turn the computer back on.


Reattach the computer power cables and all the cords connected to the computer during normal operation, but do not close the computer case yet.


Keep your hands clear of the inside of the computer case as you attach power cords and peripheral devices.


Turn the computer on and observe the performance of the computer without touching anything inside.

Do all the computer fans function normally?

Does the computer operate as well as or better than before?


If you feel that the computer behaves normally and you do not encounter any problems, turn the computer off, remove all the power cords and peripheral cables once more, and close the computer case.


Then reattach the power cords and peripheral cables and begin using the computer.


Check for errors if you encountered any problems starting the computer or if it would not start at all, unplug all the power cords and computer cables connected to the computer and look inside.

Make sure that you connected all the correct power cables inside the computer securely and did not miss any.


If you have confirmed this and the computer still doesn't start or operate normally, call your computer manufacturer or a professional computer repair shop for assistance completing the installation

Alienware m14x plugged in not charging

I had to deal with the new power supply. The problem is the went from a two contact plug to a tree connector. They made the power supply with a little smarts. The third pin was serial memory in the that tells the computer what size power supply is connected to the computer. If the power supply is a smaller power supply than came with. At one time they a different size connector for different size power supply. So you can connect a smaller power supply to a larger computer. You can burn out the power supply. The one draw back was if the memory chip died the computer would think the power supply was too small or a third party power supply not made for the computer. I've has two power supply where the chip died and the computer would not charge. I had other computer that use the same power supply and the computer would startup and charge the battery. Also if the computer thinks it had a smaller power supply the computer cut the cpu speed.
I don't know why if it has smaller power supply why it could not just charge the battery and run the computer from the battery.
If can find another power supply to try to see if computer run at all will run.
Another problem was the power supply pin sticks out the side and is easy to hit and break the solder connector contact on the inside.
You need someone that can take computer a part enough to see if the power supply connector was lose on the board.
Volt meter the power. Outside ground, inside +, center pin is the ID pin or memory pin.

Compute turns on, lights light up, and fans move, but there are no beeps or bios showing up.

Hi,

Computer turns on but no display. This issue is commonly caused by electrical static on the motherboard. Try doing a power drain.

If this computer is a laptop:
1. Turn the computer off by pressing the power button for a bout 5seconds.
2. Take the battery out of the computer.
3. Unplugged the ac adapter.
4. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. (without any power source)
5. Put the battery back in and plug the ac adapter back into the computer.
6. Turn the computer back on.

If this computer is a desktop:
1. Turn the computer off by pressing the power button for a bout 5seconds.
2. Unplug the power cable from the computer.
3. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. (without any power source)
4. Plug the power cable back into the computer.
5. Turn the computer back on.

Gateway mx6448 Notebook will not power on, Red LED flashes 4 times when power on button is pressed then nothing happens. It is the same with only the battery. LED will not flash if I have only the power...

There can be many things associated with no power to the computer.
  • The outlet into which the computer is plugged may be inoperative.

  • The surge protector you are using may be inoperative.

  • The power cable may be loose or damaged.

  • An internal device may be damaged.

  • The power supply may be inoperative.

Basic Troubleshooting Power to the Computer
There may not be a consistent flow of power to the computer.
  1. Verify that the outlet into which you are plugging the computer is operational.

  2. If you have the computer plugged into a surge protector, plug it directly into the outlet.

  3. Verify that the power cable is plugged securely into the back of the computer.

  4. If you have a monitor with a removable power cord, swap the power cords between the monitor and the computer.

Note: If you recently added a new hardware device prior to experiencing the no power issue, turn off the computer and remove the newly added hardware. If there is still no power, reseat all the other cards and cables in the computer to verify that all other devices are seated securely.
Resolving Power Supply Issues
  • External Device Conflicts
  • There may be an external device causing the computer not to turn on properly.

    1. Before continuing, verify your computer is turned off.

    2. After you have established that adequate electricity is going to your computer, verify that the voltage switch on the back of the power supply is set correctly. The small red switch is to be set to the 115-volt setting.

    3. Remove all external devices except the monitor and turn on the computer. If the fan on the back of the computer now spins, turn off the computer. Plug in the external devices one at a time and turn on the computer after each device is added.

    4. Note: If you removed all external components and the fan on the back of the computer does not spin, the problem is with something inside the computer.

  • Internal Device Conflicts
  • This helps determine if the issue is a damaged or badly seated component.

    1. Verify that the computer is turned off.

    2. Remove the case from the computer.

    3. Remove all the red, yellow, and black power connectors from each floppy disk drive, CD-ROM drive, and tape backup unit that is in the computer. The only devices connected to the power supply are your hard disk drive and motherboard.

    4. Turn on the computer and verify that the fan on the back of the computer spins. If it does not spin, turn off the computer.

    5. Remove the power connection from the hard disk drive and reconnect power to one floppy disk drive. Turn on the computer and verify that the fan on the back of the computer spins.

    6. Reseat the power connection from the power supply to the motherboard. Turn on the computer and verify that the fan on the back of the computer spins. If the power has been restored, turn off the computer and reconnect the power connections to the devices. Test the computer for power after reconnecting each device.

  • Power Switch
  • The power switch may not be functioning properly.

    1. You may need to open the case and readjust the power switch.

    2. Locate the control panel inside the computer and remove any screws holding it in place.

    3. Turn on the computer with the control panel removed by pressing the button on the control panel that corresponds to the power button. If the power supply fan spins and/or the computer turns on, put the control panel back in its place. Try to turn on the computer again.

  • Test Switch and Diagnostic LED
  • Note: Not all power supplies have a test switch and diagnostic LED.
    Certain power supplies have a test switch and LED to help better troubleshoot the device. The green LED is always on when the computer is powered on. If the computer is not receiving power please perform the diagnostic test below.

    1. Verify that the computer is turned off.
    2. Remove the case from the computer.
    3. Remove all of the red, yellow, and black power connectors from each floppy disk drive and ROM drive and the tape backup unit (TBU) that is in the computer. Remove all power connectors from the motherboard. The only device that needs to be connected to the power supply is the hard disk drive.
    4. Press and hold the test switch for five seconds on the power supply, and then verify that the green light on the power supply comes on.
    5. If the light comes on:
      1. The power supply is good and something that was plugged into the power supply is causing the computer to not turn on.
      2. Plug devices in one at a time, testing with the test switch between each device to determine what is causing the power issue.
      3. If all devices are plugged in and the light is working, the connections may have needed to be reseated, or it is possibly a power switch issue.
      4. Go to the power switch section of the power supply checklist for additional troubleshooting steps.

    6. If the light does not come on:
      1. Disconnect the power from the hard disk drive, and then plug in power to the CD-ROM drive and determine whether the light comes on.
      2. If it does, follow the preceding information - "If the light comes on."
      3. If the light still does not come on, contact Gateway Technical Support.

    7. Confirm that power from the power supply is connected to the motherboard. Remove all cards and cables from the motherboard, and press and hold the test switch for five seconds on the power supply and determine whether the green light-emitting diode (LED) comes on.
    8. If the LED comes on, put the devices back in one at a time, testing between each device to determine what is causing the issue.

BOOTING PROBLEM

If the computer will not power on:

  1. Make sure the power cord or AC adapter is plugged into the computer and into an electrical outlet that is live.
  2. If it is plugged into a power strip or surge protector make sure it is powered on.
  3. Try using a different electrical outlet.
  4. Check voltage setting on power source (AC Adapters are auto switching).
  5. Perform a power reset on the computer.

To perform a power reset:

  1. Unplug and remove the AC adapter and battery, or power cable from the computer.
  2. Press and hold the power button on the computer for about 30 seconds.
  3. Release the power button and plug the AC adapter and battery, or power cord back into the computer.
  4. Press the power button and see if the computer powers up.
  5. If that does not work, try a different AC adapter, battery, or power cable and repeat these steps.

If the problem persists the computer may need service. You may need to contact Acer support.

WHEN I PRESS POWER BUTTON NOTHING HAPPENS

Disconnect the Power cable / A/c adapter/Battery from computer.
Disconnect External peripherials.
Hold down the power button on the computer for 10 seconds.
Reconnect the power cable or A/c adapter and battery or the computer
Try to turn on the computer
check for Led's on the computer
If still no display ,shut down the computer,disconnect power cable.
Open the computer tower,remove memory modules,reconnect power cable and turn on the computer.If you get a beeping sound after turning on you should be getting beeping sound suggesting the mother board is not bad.Turn on the computer and disconnect power cable from computer.
Reseat 1 memory at a time if you have 2 memory module or if single memory module reseat in different memory slot,swap memory module.
Reconnect the power cable and turn on the computer if it boots to desktop possible issue with 1 of the memory module.
Disconnect the harddrive ide cable from the harddrive .Turn on the computer.
If still unable to power on .Shutdown the computer and disconnect power cable.Remove video card,sound card ,modem card if any .Connect just the vga cable from monitor to the integrated video port.
Connect power cable and turn on the computer.
If computer turns on possible issue with one of PCI or PCI express card.
If still unable to power on.Disconnect the power connector pin from the motherboard and reconnect it back.Turn on the computer check power power led on motherboard,also check if the processor fan is spinning. if no go then issue with motherboard. GOOD Luck.!!

No powering on

Resolution:

Issue: No power or computer does not turn on.
Cause: No power from the computer can be caused by any of the below possibilities.
  1. Connections not connected properly.
  2. Third-party hardware.
  3. Bad power cable.
  4. Incorrect power supply.
  5. Bad battery.
  6. Bad power supply, power button, and/or power board or inverter.
Solution: Note: If the computer is turning on but is not (beeping) or giving any type of picture on the display. If you are uncertain if the computer is turning on or not, this can be easily checked by locating any fans in the computer or visible from the outside of the computer. If these fans are spinning, the computer is receiving power and this document may not apply to your issue. Connections not connected properly Verify that the power connection is connected properly to the wall and the back of the computer. If the connections appear to be connected properly, attempt to disconnect and reconnection both ends of the cable. If you have a power strip (surge protector) or switch used to turn everything on at once, temporarily disconnect the computer from that switch and connect that cable directly to the wall. This will help verify that the strip or switch is not bad. Verify that the outlet works by connecting a different component to that switch. Third-party hardware : (If )additional hardware has been recently added to the computer it is recommend that you temporarily disconnect that device or devices from the computer to verify they are not preventing your computer from turning on. Bad Power cable : Verify that the cable supplying your computer is not bad or damaged by using another power cable. If you have a standard crt modem this cable can be used in place of the computer power cable. If you have a portable computer or laptop, when the cables are plugged into the laptop you should see a power light or battery charge light. If this light is seen, this is a good indication that the power cable is good. Incorrect power supply If you are building your own computer or if the computer has never turned on since you purchased it, it is possible you are using a power supply that does not supply enough power and/or the incorrect type of power supply. Verify your power supply meets the requirements of your motherboard and processor. Bad battery If your computer is a laptop or portable computer that utilizes a battery for mobility it is possible that the battery may be causing your issue.
  • If your computer powers on when the cable is connected to the portable computer but not when it is disconnected, we recommend you purchase a new battery.
  • If your computer does not power on when the battery is connected and when the power cable / charger cable is connected, try removing the battery and seeing if the computer can power on with only the power cable connected. If no power is still received, skip to the final section.
Bad Power Supply, power button, and/or power board or inverter If, after following the above sections, your computer still receives no power, it is likely that a hardware component in the computer has failed. It is most likely that the power supply has failed. LAPTOP /no power

It states you are not getting no power on your lap top computer :

No power or computer does not turn on Cause: No power from the computer can be caused by any of the below possibilities.
