I need to know what each knob and switch on front of radio should be set at. i know about the squelch setting and mic gain (at least i think I do) but not sure about all the other settings for your standard set up for this radio thanks laydgator

the knob that turns the radio on and off is the volume potentiaometer.turn it 1/2 wayopen.the next knob is the squelch maqke sure it is all the to the left.the next knob is the mic gain and the RF gain.Set the mic gain at 1/2 and the RF gain all the to the right.the next knob is the delta tune,set it 1/2 way the next knob is the calibration knob leave it alone.Now above those knobs are little switches .the third switch from the left is for CB/PA make sure its on CB. check the WX switch and make sure it not on a weather station. and finally the last switch to the right is called a dynamic squelch switch.Make sure it is down. with all said your radio should be on and you should be able to hear sound. If not ,take an external speaker and hook it to the external speaker plug in the back of the radio.If you hear something then you internal speaker is junk.replace it .

was the radio wired direct or with a cigarette lighter plug? try the RF gain knob and the mic gain knob.If they are wide open does the radio rec.any better? if not you may have a problem with the main IC

start off at about 1/2 way then adjust to your choosing. Don't forget about the mic gain . Set it the same way . squelch wide open then turn back till it just cracks . should be good.

Assuming you don't have the manual,basic controls for receive are to make sure the switch next to the meter is set to s/rf,switch for cb/pa is set cb,knob for rf gain is at max, squelch knob is fully counterclockwise..squelch can be adjusted if ya don't want to hear static but will start cutting out weaker signals.If none of the above works,try plugging in an external speaker to the jack on the back of the radio,if ya still don't hear anything,check that antenna coax is screwed in tightly in back of the radio.Next step after all that would be the microphone,is the stock mic,power mic..if it is the original stock mic that has not been rewired in any,then I would suggest taking radio to qualified cb repair shop,bring mic with you to shop so they can check it too,in fact I would bring the truck also so they can check antenna and adjust it if needed...Good luck

Tune-up $50 you should get 70 watts older units 90 watts newer units

As far as the knobs go
Band D with channel 19 selected this is 27.185 citizen band if you radio has had the channel expansion done other wise it is not accessible.
Select AM
10 khz switch should be off
mic gain know depends on the tuning of your radio and mic choice.
rf gain full clockwise best reception you will just have to play with this knob and the squelch to your liking
Make sure the thing is working properly before you buy capacitors dry out and the connex radios are know for problems with their pcboards. good luck

Begin with

• Volume knob 12 o'clock position
• Squelch knob full counter clockwise
• RF gain knob full clockwise
• Pa/CB switch to CB
• Mic plugged in
• Check coax and antenna connections.

• Make sure your antenna gommet/insulator is installed correctly or it will directed gound. Treat antenna shaft as it is the positive portion of circuit.

If you have another CB check the antenna system with that rig. To verify it is a radio issue. Then dig deeper Microphone, PLL chip, Audio chip etc.

I have the same radio as well. If you are running a "stock factory mic".....do this:
VOLUME: set to your comfort
SQUELCH:all the way to the left (if you don't mind hearing everything other wise adjust to the right to illiminate noise)
DYNAMIKE:If you have a factory mic or "noise canceling mic", turn all the way to the right (unless it squeals and then turn the mic gain down slowly until the squealing stops)
RF GAIN:that is your "receive" and I always turn it all the way to the right to maximize reception! In my opinion, this is the dumbest knob ever made since why not hear as good as you can??? thats what the SQUELCH is for!
DELTA TUNE: IT IS "USELESS!!!
SWR CALIBRATE: don't ever trust it! ALWAYS USE A GOOD SWR METER "IN LINE"
Now as for the "SWITCHES"
The top left switch is the SWR and as I stated, do NOT trust it and leave it on "S/RF (TOP)
SWITCH TWO: If you have it on OFF, you may get allot of engine spark plug firing noise so I run mine in the "middle" (ANL)
THIRD SWITCH: CB
FOURTH SWITCH: Brightness is to your liking!
There ya go! You can always set the switches to your liking and comfort.

Do you have talkback installed? It my be too loud and causing feed back. Back the mic gain down if so.

Could also be improper mic wiring. If you use a mic that is wired for a different radio, it could just cause a hum, buzz or squeal.

Another thing that can cause a hum, buzz or squeal is a faulty volume and or squelch knob depending on the radio.

• Turn down or disable talk back.
• If you cannot turn off or disable talk back, lower mic gain.
• Try a different mic that you know is wired for cobra.
• Play with volume and squelch knobs while TX and see if it stops at all. If it does replace knob.
  

Radio On Volume comfortable Listening level Squelch Open (Hearing Noise) Mic Gain Up unless told by receiving station to reduce it. 10 Khz Off pa-fm-am set to Am e-Tone to off I believe this model has CB on Band C which is switch down on Low and C position you will know when you hear truckers on 19 which band is CB

There are little red dots on the edge of each knob. As a starting point, try these knob positions (starting from the knob on the left)..
Adjust volume as desired.
Adjust squelch all the way counterclockwise (no squelch).
Adjust mic gain so the red dot is at the 12 o'clock position.
Adjust mic gain so the red dot is at the 12 o'clock position.
Adjust light dimmer as desired.
Adjust RF Power with the red dot at the 12 o'clock position.
Ignore talkback and clarifier for now.
Now for the 5 little slide switches...
Set all of them to the middle position.
Now you should be able to operate transmit and receive.

This is a very good radio, but there are so many adjustment knobs that you can reduce its performance if you just blindly turn knobs.
After you learn how the radio sounds and works with these average settings, play with each knob, adjusting a little and see what it does for your particular antenna setup. Do some "radio checks" with other CBers and find out what your best settings are. Also read the owners manual for guidance on what each knob does...especially mic gain (too low and you won't be heard, too high and you'll be garbled) and RF Power (to little and you won't reach out very far, too much and you'll overload local listeners). This is definitely not a beginners radio. But it is a lot of fun and will enable you to learn a lot.
