There is a left handed thread and a right handed thread on the arbors.

Double nut is the preferred method.

  • discard the stone if it has been dropped

How do I remove the steering wheel in a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire?

Leave key off.Remove the screws behind the airbag and remove (you do not have to disconnect the battery) Now loosen the big nut in the center of the steering wheel.LEAVE NUT ON SHAFT BUT LOOSENED a few turns.Use steering wheel puller OR just grab wheel and pull hard while slightly wiggling the wheel,it should just pop towards you and hit the loose nut on the steering shaft.Remove nut and remove wheel.Always mark wheel location on the steering shaft for easy reinstall alignment of wheel to shaft.

Removal steering

LOOSEN the the bolts that clamp the fork legs to the tree. Remove the fork legs along with the front wheel by pulling down on them. Be careful that the brake hoses and the speedometer aren't damaged. Remove the center nut. Bend the lock washer tang so that the bearing retainer nut can be removed and remove the nut and washer from the center shaft. the tree should slide out from the bottom. Don't remove the bearings from the center shaft unless you are going to replace them. When re-installing the center shaft, tighten the bearing retainer nut just enough so the shaft doesn't shake but not so tight that there is a bind when turning the tree. this can be re-adjusted after all assembly is complete.
Good Luck

How to stop shaft from turning to remove nut and replace wheel

If you put a wrench on the nut on the other end of the shaft, you have a 50/50 chance that the nut you want loose will come loose. If the wrong one comes loose, you can remove that nut completely (and the wheel) then take the nut with you to the store to buy another one. Then put two nuts back on and tighten them together as a jamb nut. Then try again. If the wrong nut still turns, you have to tighten the pair of nuts together tighter. good luck

How technical is it to replace a front wheel bearing on a 2005 Pontiac SV6 and can I do it without any specialized tools

you will need a big socket (20 or 21 mm) and 1/2 inch drive to remove axle nut and torque wrench to reinstall. The book DOES call for a special tool to get the hub off the axle, but I have never used one before.

Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel.
  3. Remove the wheel drive shaft nut.
  4. Remove the brake caliper and wire aside.
  5. Remove the brake rotor.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wheel speed sensor.
  7. Remove the wheel speed sensor connector from the bracket by depressing the locking tabs.
  8. Remove the 3 hub and bearing assembly bolts.
  9. Install Wheel Hub Removal tool J-42129 to the hub and bearing assembly in order to remove the hub and bearing assembly from the wheel drive shaft.
  10. Remove the hub and bearing assembly from the steering knuckle.

To install:
  1. Install the hub and bearing assembly to the steering knuckle.
  2. Install the 3 hub and bearing assembly bolts and tighten to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
  3. Install the wheel speed sensor connector into the bracket until the locking tabs click into place.
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the wheel speed sensor.
  5. Install the axle nut to the wheel drive shaft and hand tighten.
  6. Install the brake rotor.
  7. Use a screw driver or similar tool to stop the rotation of the brake rotor.
  8. Tighten the wheel drive shaft nut to 159 ft. lbs. (215 Nm).
  9. Install the brake caliper.
  10. Install the tire and wheel.

Replace velocity axle assembly passanger side

In order for the cv shaft to come out the rotor assembly has to be disconnected from the center shaft ie remove center wheel nut and all other components attached to the rotor assembly except the ball joint and seperate it from the shaft.
shaft might be held in place with circlip[s or will just slide out with a hard pull.

How do you get the pulley and nut off on the cutting pulley to change it?

The easiest way is with an impact tool. It will spin the nut faster than the shaft can spin and will remove it very quickly. If you do not have an impact tool, then you will need to stop the shaft from turning. Put a large clamp onto the under side of the deck and then rotate the blade around against it. This will stop the shaft from turning while you remove the nut. If you have already removed the spindle assembly from the deck, you will have to clamp the lower end of the shaft in a vise to be able to remove the nut. It should be a standard threaded nut, which will remove when turned counter-clockwise.
Good luck!

Stiff mixer tap

You need to remove the top from the tap that is stiff, this is normally done by removing a cap or plug from the top of the tap using a small screwdriver or some other form of lever, underneath you should find a screw, removing this screw should allow you to remove the tap handle/knob.
You should now be able to see the main shaft of the tap, where you have just removed the screw from. work down this shaft and you come to a nut, this is known as the packing nut, it places pressure on a seal to stop water coming back up the side of the shaft. It may be that this nut is a little too tight and is acting like a brake, you need to loosen this nut (anticlockwise) but not too much that water is allowed to seep out from the shaft, try a little at a time, (you also need to hold the bigger, lower nut to stop this turning) It could also be that lime-scale has formed on the bottom of this shaft, if this is the case you may need to replace this part of the tap, the bigger nut further down the shaft allows you to unscrew (anticlockwise) the tap from the main body and replace this part.Remember to turn off the water at the mains shut-off before removing the tap body. If replacing the tap body it needs to be tightened down to prevent it turning when turning the tap on and off.
