Hey everardo,
What is most likely going on is that something (i.e. sand) is obstructing the movement of the lens. You can try gently blowing compressed air into the sides of the lens to try and dislodge whatever is stopping the lens movement. You can also try putting the camera on a flat surface with the lens pointing up and hold the shutter button down, and then turn the camera on. If neither of these options works I would have it cleaned by an authorized service technician. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

The lens makes funnny noises and will not go back into the camera. a lens error message also comes up on the screen. I have used it on a beach recently, so could it be to do with sand getting trapped? any...

It is quite likely that sand or some other particle got lodged in the lens mechanism. You can take it to a camera store that services cameras and have them clean it.

Canon SD700 - "lens error. restart camera"

This is a known defect in this camera. It has happened twice to me in less than two years. If your warranty is valid then you can send it to Canon and they will fix it in about 6 weeks. However you will end up paying to renew your warranty every year because it will happen to you again. A total waste of money in my opinion. This has been such an awesome camera but after this happening to me again I am going to junk it and buy a Nikon.

Problem with M340 Kodak easy share digital camera..( automaticall

I had the same problem after a day at the beach. What I did was get a can of compressed air (from the computer section) and blow air around the lens as I repeatedly turned it on. It took about five cycles, but I eventually cleared whatever was preventing the lens from fully opening.

Good luck.

Headache

Since you purchased it fairly recently it is probably still under warranty. Contact Samsung. Camera instruction book probably has contact information or try their website.

Sony Cyber-Shot Lens!

I really don't know a lot about this stuff..but if I were you I'd go and have it professionally cleaned right away. You don't want sand in their messing up the camera.

Lens error

The very smallest piece of sand will jam any digital camera lens. You should be extremely careful to never allow sand to get anywhere near any digital camera. The gears are very small, thus the smallest piece of debris will do a lot of damage. To remove all the sand in the gear train is a time consuming effort. It has to be completely taken apart to do it right. You will need a good magnifing lens as well. That may also affect the ccd and alignment. Sometimes it it worth it.

The better solution is to send it to Canon's service people.  They can fix he problem is the fixes at the above site won't work.

Camera makes weird sounds and blurry images

It sonds like the lens went with you to the beach on March break. Because it sounds as though there might be sand in the lens. Either that or the camera received a knock or drop. The lens on the camera needs to be repaired and the camera reprogrammed.
