I want to auto sync files between wd my book world and two pcs on home network (one xp, one vista) so that I can always access files even when offline from either laptop. Any ideas? WD have indicated product is not compatible with Windows sync for Vista.

SOURCE: WD My Book Essential -- Can't find drivers

It should not really need drivers in Win2K or Vista, you might have a problem with your USB drivers. Go into device manager, remove any devices under the USB heading and reboot. All the drivers should reinstall and hopefully your MyBook will come alive again. Otherwise, try the MyBook on a friend's computer, if it doesn't work there then the MyBook may be faulty itself.

SOURCE: Offline mybookworld (WD)

Mionet is the software for the WD HD that runs on your router. I changed router and installed a "new World book". Works now.

Is your drive warm/hot like mine was/is ?

i think that the folders that u can access in XP machine are encrytped from Xp operating system ... if the color of the folders or the files is changed to green or blue ..then ur folders are encrypted ...if it is the case, the restrcitions have to be considered..so u can decrypt and then access from vista...hope this helps...

Problems with Western Digital My Book World Edition

I have the same drive. It works great with windows XP but with Windows vista has difficulty seeing this type of drive and keeping the connection once it is established. Take it back if you have windows vista and then search for which 1TB drives work well with windows vista. It really has problems with windows vista 64bit. I was able to finally see the drive when I was using photoshop file/browse/network... then I dragged the shortcut Icon to my desktop and access the drive that way from that point on. Mine stopped completely tonight... I think the power cord went bad or something.

Mionet application doesn't show files in subfolders of shared folders

I believe you have a choice of using either the web interface or the desktop version of Mionet when you are on the same network (LAN), and as you mentioned both of you have no problem when you are on the same network as the NAS drive (MBWE) is.

When you are out of the local network where your NAS drive is, the only choice you would have is the web interface of Mionet. Eventhough you may have installed the desktop version of Mionet tool on a remote PC, I don't think you can access through that desktop tool. Sorry !!!

Only showing as a network device on 2 of the 3 pcs on the network

Did u added the new network devices, or did u wait till thy popped up?
If u didn't added them manually, then go to networklocations, add network location, press next, and again next, then type in \\mybookworld\"here the name of the folder of your mybook, ex. Movies or music,.." (without " ")

Do it for every folder.

How do you set up multiple WD Anywhere users on the network to share the same MyBook World Edition

hey,

-No WD Anywhere allows 5 users I think.
This could only be the solution, if you installed WD Anywhere on other PCs before

Check out the MioNet site, think they give options for new users.
if this is not the problem, I don't have a solution by now.

bye
