Hi, I'm having an intermittent problem in which the 'o' key activates the "assign keys" dialog box. While typing, when I hit the 'o' the dialog box pops up and halts all progress until it's been clicked off.
I've tried changing the batteries, and returning the assigned keys to default. To my knowledge, there was no change to the computer or other obvious precipitating factors (which was why I initially suspected it might be the batteries).
This is the second time it has happened. The first time it occured, it was solved by either returning assigned buttons to default or sheer coincidence.

What I would suggest is reinstalling the keyboard software from Microsoft. This is better than resettnig the defaults as it will mend any issues the keyboard software is causing, which is probably the case. When you go to Control Panel and uninstall the keyboard software. that is to say you do this once you have the CD or have downloaded the latest software version from micosoft.com/downloads You may find that when you click on the keyboard software to uninstall it in Add Remove that there is another option titled Repair, if so, choose that and let the OS repair the installation.

I can appreciate your frustration as I've been doing this for a very very long time and sometimes these keyboards just malfunction, usually this can be resolved in software. The keyboard does have a circuit board inside.
The thing to do if you have one is to use an alternative keyboard while I give you a walkthrough to clean up your system registry from this software.
Just to remind me, and I don't mean to patronize or pander to you, but you have turned the keyboard over and tapped it on your desk to shake out any stuff that has gotten into the keyboard or unstick any stuck keys.
Lastly, before you do anything above you need to check and see if you have somehow enabled Sticky Keys. Sticky Keys are accessed via the control panel keyboard, handicap features. What Sticky Keys does is keep the Alt, Ctrl and Shift key enabled after typing it for nearly five seconds while users with no digits on their hands or no hands and using a pointer can type.
To check this go to Control Panel, Accessibility Options, the first property sheet you see has a check box to enable disable Sticky Keys. Your Control Panel may be different but you hunt for what sounds like Accessibility Options, which used to be called Handicapped Features, (that was considered too perjorative), and your version of Windows may be slightly different but these property sheets that get you go enable/disable Sticky Keys can be found.
If you get lost somewhere let me know and if Sticky Keys are enabled let me know as I will remember to suggest this earlier with the next person. Usually, reinstalling the software resets the defaults but your version of Windows may have kept things that were enabled, enabled. That's software for you.

That's great, but beware that you can enable Sticky Keys inadvertently by holding the Control key down for five seconds.
Sorry it took so long for me to have this dawn on me, thinking reinstalling the software would reset this option.
There is actually a unique icon in the System Tray that indicates when sticky keys is on. However, if "Hide Inactive Icons" is active it probably won't show. You can change this by right clicking a blank area of the task bar and choosing properties. From there deselect the check box for hide inactive icons.
If this does remain fixed after a day, would you be so kind as to change the rating for my solution to fixed. It would mean a lot. I don't mind spending a lot of time with someone. I'm doing that now with someone's laptop that has a difficult problem. Those of us who work in the free area and not just the pay area appreciate the higher ranking when a long series of messaging finally fixes a problem.

Meanwhile, turn off hide inactive icons so you can see if your cat? has walked on your keyboard and done this. This, believe it or not, is rather common If you need more help of doing this task let me know and we'll get through it.

I've owned the keyboard for approx 7 months. The problem first appeared about 1 month ago.
There doesn't appear to be much reason for the 'onset' of the problem (no new programs installed etc).
Since re-installing the keyboard software, the problem is becoming increasingly worse and it won't be long until I can't type the letter 'o' at all without having to click out of the dialog box each time.
Actually, I think I've reached that point now. :(

This could be the problem. Perhaps. Maybe.
At some point I did get a message about sticky keys but I can't remember when. I thought I had reversed the situation, but perhaps I wasn't as successful as I thought.
Anyway, several hours ago I tried 'reversing' the situation again and so far so good! However, I'll hold off on a grand celebration for another day or so.
