I have a whirlpool duet dryer, Model #GEW9200LWO, SER# MM2833763 It started making a loud screaching sound. Now, I can't turn it over to finish drying. When I try to do so, it makes a click noise and sounds like a grinding sound. I opened the door and tested the button, which clicks. It also smells like rubber burning. I unplugged it and turned off electrical box. Do you think this is a belt problem? Thanks, Kathy

Yes it is either the belt or the guide wheel which will smell like rubber if it is bad

SOURCE: Dryer is making loud thumping noise.

Take off the back panel of the dryer and look at the motor and belt turning the drum. There may be something caught on the drum and is pinned in place causing the noise. The motor could be loose on the platform and needs to be tightened. It is probably something physical and seen causing the noise.

SOURCE: Whirlpool GEW9200 dryer makes loud whining noise...

It might be metal on metal. It is possible that something worked it's way from inside the drum it between the drum and the rest of the dryer. There's just a couple of srcews that holds the back and top on to the dryer. Take them out after un-plugging the dryer, and consider plugging it back in and running it to see if you can here where the squeek is coming from.

SOURCE: Burning Smell from Belt on Whirlpool Dryer

Hi, You need to check and see if the belt has slipped off of one of the pulleys. Was the idler the wheels style or a glide style?
Make sure the grooves in the belt are facing the drum and they are in the grooves of the motor pulley.
Please let me know if this helps and if I can assist you further.

Dryer makes a screaching sound when turned on

Does it make the screeching sound continually after it is turned on or just when it is turned on and then the sound goes away? Knowing this will help in diagnosing the problem.

Model GEW9200LWO control lock light

Even tho the door lock light is working the switch has dropped a leg supplying power to the rest of the machine. Repace the door switch and you should be good to go. Even tho you have a GE it was made by frigidaire for GE. Common problem with the newer switches. They have gone back to the originals as the replacement for this.

My dryer is making loud screaching noises. Everytime I turn it on to dry clothes is makes very loud screaching noises.

Sounds like it needs what are called glides or felt. This is what keeps the metal drum from contacting the metal housing. If this is let go too long the drum can be ruined
