When i try to start the engine a light on the dash comes on and says check engine i've checked what i can but i cant seem to find the problem and when i turn the key theres nothing at all happening everything seems dead but all lights,indicators and radio work

A battery light has been on for months
That says you don't care & is on the verge
of abuse

To have any type of mechanic in the family
& you not having the car checked for codes
& properly diagnosed,leaves me at a loss

Is there an illuminated check engine light on the dash? That sounds like a failing TPS (throttle position sensor). Unless you have low fuel pressure! When (if ever) have you replaced the fuel pump and/or fuel filter? Are you running the correct type of fuel in the engine? If you have slow or sticky fuel injectors, a can of Seafoam might help!

it could be the alternator . measure the output voltage across the battery with the engine running and car in neutral with hand brake on. It should at least 13.4 volts.
If it does then I would get the battery checked at a car battery place.
A car battery place could also check your alternator.

If you are stranded at the lights suggest calling a mobile car battery replacement person or a road assist company if you are a member of one.

They can jumper a temporary mobile battery across your battery to get car out of traffic stream !

try to recheck the spark plug distribution cable arrangement otherwise check your spark plug may be one of it is short or the gap is not proper.

Do the lights on your dash come on like they should?
IF SO, try starting the vehicle in neutral!

When you did the head gasket, did you check the head for cracks? Sounds like the problem does originate in the engine. That's where the temp sensor is located. That's where it would get hot first.You might want to have the head magnafluxed to check for hairline cracks. Good luck.

Your Jeep ecu is in need of repair. Your jeep is having a common problem known as the "Delayed check engine light" starting problem. Next time you try starting the jeep and it the fuel pump won't prime, look at the dash.....the check engine light is not on and the fuel pump will not come on until the check engine light eventually come on, on the dash. Have it repaired and it will eliminate the delayed check engine light start problem.

Start with the engine. Open the bay and look in the direction of the firewall. There has to be a connection going to your dash there somewhere. Try pushing and pulling, maybe you will pinch the right cable. If that did not work, try taking a multimeter and looking for broken connections.

check the gas cap...i"ve found that a loose cap will set off the check light...if you dont have a computer to recall or reset the codes i believe it"ll just go away after you drive it for a couple days on its on once corrected.
