I have a samsung minicorder VP-M110. when i download files to make a movie (using windows movie maker ) the files are renamed to avi and cannot be opened. searching the net shows this problem is widespread. please help. brian kelly

Since the files you are trying to play is .avi and its a video file format which is not played by default unless you download codec software and avi support player ,so to play this type of file you need codecs to be installed on your computer ......

windows movie maker doesn't recognize mpeg 4 files. you need to use the software that came with your camcorder, or you might try downloading another player by doing a search for mpeg 4 editing programs. one other option is Media Converter (also media converter pro) there you can convert the files to avi or wmv that win movie maker can use.

Window movie maker, does not recognize my dvd camcorder
the issue is that your camera exports this movies in a format that the movie-maker do not recognize ...so ..what you really meed it is a movie converter to convert the files you download from the camera into such files that are seen by the movie maker..

JVC .MOD files Can not edit them when converted to avi,wmv etc.
So you mean you just rename the file? That is doing nothing then it is actually making the file almost useless. That isn't called converting as well. To convert you can download any one of the many programs out there for converting formats such as this. Here is an example

Vista crashes while publishing movie in Windows Movie Maker/DVD Maker
i just found out the problem.
I have nero 7 installed on vista. To fix the vista movie maker crash when rendering, I just renamed this folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter
Renamed DSFilter to something else. VMM no longer crashes and when I want to use Nero again, just rename DSFilter back to normal.
