Hi! I stored files, docs, and pics, on my Verbatim Ext. Hard Drive USB 2.0 awhile back. I now want to update it. When I go to "shortcut to Verbatim" I get a Nero BackItUP Archive File page. When I click on one of the files, I get an error report; "Runtime Error" - "the application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way". It tells me to contact support team. Can you help me understand the proper way to see my saved files and/or update my files? Thank you.

Connect the external drive.
Open 'My Computer'.
One of the icons should be associated with the external drive.
Double-click the icon to "open" the external drive, to show the files/folders on the drive.

    Thank you. That all works, but when I try to open a file to see what is in it, that's when the "runtime" error appears, preventing continuation. Any ideas?

    You might have a computer-virus on your computer that is interfering with Windows.
    Or, it might be some "non-virus" software (toolbar or anti-virus software) that is misbehaving.

    So, connect the external drive to a different computer, to see if that computer can access the files.

Hi, try going into 'Control Panel' -> 'Administrative Tools' -> 'Computer Management'
Then, under 'Storage', choose 'Disk Management' and try formatting from there. If necessary, give your usb key a drive letter.

It has password protection. Open My Computer on your PC, insert the USB drive, open the password file, enter your password, then select the option to remove password protection from the USB drive. If this does not work, contact Verbatim for a solution, these USB flash drives have lifetime warranties.

right click my computer, manage. go to disk management and delete any volumes on the flash and set back to basic disk if it's dynamic. format fat 32

What do I have to do to start copying file to the external hard drive. Looks like I am just getting shortcuts. The file folders have the small black arrow indicating a shortcut

Hi right click on the file you want to put on the ext. hard drive. You will see a option "send to" click that then choose the ext hard drive. This will sent the whole file and not just a shortcut. Thank you for using Fixya.com

Verbatim USB 8GB file copy problem

ITS virus problem which is playing with the inf file of the usb drive.
also another possibility is 1) the usb port ihas loose connections and disconnects i between drive sensing
2) certain 8 gb drives go back to a capacity of 2 gb drive if one formats it accidentally .

I don't have the disk that goes with the product for the verbatim external hard drive 500 gb; is there a suggestion on where to go to download information needed.

Go to your external HD's website and search for the installation download.This will allow you to assign your ext.HD to say E-Drive or G-Drive for example!! I did this myself with my Ext. HD

Bought a Verbatim 1Gb USB Drive with some .pdf files for secure zone. I overwrote these accidentally.

usb drives dont have manuals the computer automatically detect the drive.

in saving files it is the same when you save in a floppy or other drives.
