Older Pentax Lenses & Pentax digital SLR cameras

Do the lenses from Pentax 35 mm film cameras use the same mounting system as the lenses for the new Pentax digital SLR cameras, especially the K200D? Do they work on the new digital SLRs? Or are the systems different enough that the lenses I have not work on the digital SLRs?
Thank you. Doreen Neilley

Depending on which series (screwmount, K, M, etc) you have, you'll get different levels of functionality, but yes -- all Pentax lenses for 35mm and DSLR (except for the medium-format digitals) will work with your K200D. Read the manual.

I have old Lenses that I use; you must set your lens to manual, Switch left hand front of body. That should resolve the problem.

What lens mount do you have on the lens? In other words, with what make film camera did you use the lens? A DSLR from the same company should be able to use the lens.

Lens mount fit

None directly. The T90 was the last Canon camera to use the older FD lenses. All newer Canon SLRs, film and digital, use the EF mount. However, by using an adapter such as http://www.rakuten.com/prod/adorama-canon-fd-lens-to-eos-body-adapter-with-correction-glass/216466533.html?listingId=120668308, you can use the old lenses on any Canon digital SLR.

Can I use the old lenses on a new camera

Your old Pentax lenses uses the Pentax K mount. The current Pentax digital SLRs all use the same K mount so the lenses will fit on them. You obviously won't get all the features available on new lenses, such as autofocus, but they should all work fine.

What kind of lenses should I buy for my new Pentax Kr? People tell me to buy new digital lenses. What is the real scoop on lenses for this camera?

Newer lenses tend to be sharper and lighter than older lenses, and with better optical characteristics. Some digital-only lenses are also designed for the smaller sensors of some digital cameras, allowing for further reductions in size and weight. In general, lenses designed for film cameras will work with digital cameras.

If you already have Pentax-mount lenses, by all means continuing using them if you're satisfied with the results.

Pentax ES2; do bayonet lens fit digital Pentax SLR?

Any Pentax K-mount lens will fit any Pentax DSLR. The DSLR will fire the shutter.  There is a menu setting (RTFM) which allows the use of older lenses, but you will lose some of the automation (again RTFM). Remember to allow that the effective focal length when using a "film" lens on a DSLR body goes up by 50%.
A standard 50mm lens becomes a 75mm equivalent, but stays a large aperture.
