D40x stuck on connecting to pc

Make sure you have set your USB connectin in the camera to MPT/PTP. Most of the problem is that the USB connection isn't set to MPT/PTP.

I had the exact same problem and fixed it by switching USB cables. As it turns out, I was using a USB cable that is designed for power only (not data). I didn't even know they made USB cables that couldn't transfer data...

what coursed my problem is i used a DV cable instead of the USB cable....when i connected with the DV cable the pc shuts itself down like a power shortage...and ever since then my D40X stuck on the connecting to PC screen...

I have the same exact problem. I have did what you stated however the problem still exists. Not sure what else to do.

Well, I fixed it!

I tried all the aforementioned solutions and nothing worked. I took out the battery, waited, put it back in, reset it, etc. etc. No response.

Then, I plugged it into the computer, left it on for about a half hour to an hour. When I came back, it was responding and working. Apparently, I had to leave it plugged to the computer long enough for the internal battery to discharge. Try it! It worked for me, and I thought my camera had gone completely haywire and I was ready to return it!

Try taking the battery out of the body. With battery out, turn power switch to "on". Turn it back off (battery still out). Wait 1/2 an hour, put battery back in and see what happens. I hope that solves it. If not, re-post your question and we'll investigate further.
