I have a kenmore, front loading dryer, up till yesterday, fine. Today, turn it on I have power & it makes a humming noise, but no tumble & no drying, constant humming till I turn it off. Any suggestions?
Sounds like motor is stalled. Remove the lint filter, look inside down toward the bottom left corner at the blower wheel. Something may be jammed in the blower wheel. If difficult to see, TURN OFF POWER TO MACHINE, remove bottom access panel. 2 to 3 screws on bottom of panel. Remove lint housing (3 to 4 screws) and inspect blower wheel for debris.

Does the noise stop when you let off the start button? If so you either have a bad motor or something has gotten into the blower keeping it from turning. If the motor is running but drum not turning, you have a broken belt. Please post the complete model number from the dryer and I will try to help you with diagnosing and repairing the problem.

the belt probably broke. if you can pop the top up and look at drum that turns and dont see a belt around it then you would need a belt. remove top panel by removing two to 3 screws behind dryer on top rear. turn off power first. then you will be able to see drum. part # for belt is 661570 roughly 19.99-29.99 thats to do it your self. if you call a local servicer you are looking at 75-125 labor plus part. hope this helps and gives you a general idea of the prices you are looking at to repair

its sounds like you have a broken belt or a bad door swith open the door rotate the drum manually if it feels verry easy to turn that means your belt is broken if not you can check the wires then replace the door switck thanks from gilles
You have a motor that has a thermal overload built into it. This is for the dryer's protection. My best guess is to replace the motor. But before you do all that, make sure the wiring is good from the receptacle to the controls in the back of the dryer. It could not have a good connection thus causing this noise.

You need to check if the Spray Arms are knocking against an item in a basket. If the source of noise cannot be determined, run a program without plates or glassware. If the noises continue, let me know for further investigation.
