Is your chipset wireless network program taking over?
Often an internal system program will take priority when connecting to wireless networks.
Think of it like siblings who squabble over attention.
If you can find any other programs which are acting in this manner, I'd suggest telling them "do not use this when connecting" and then see if you can then use your main program.
Also - is your network secured and / or hidden? Did you reset your router? Sometimes this helps, too. =D

I suggest uninstalling SP3... do you have System Restore turned on? Google how to check...
If you do, try rolling back that way. Start>Run>restore <enter> and the restore window will appear. Choose the restore to an earlier time option, and hopefully a choice for 'SP3 installation' will be there. Choose that to roll back... good luck!
SOURCE: HP laptop display issue
If you are recving 1 long and two short beeps, it is not a memory problem.
It is not a Lid closing or lid switch problem.
If you are able to switch to and from your LCD and Monitor, you are lucky.
I have been up and down the road with several HP DV6000 series units, all have had the 1 long and 2 shot beeps.
HP is aware of this problem and has offered an extended 1 year from date of original warranty expiration. Another words 2 years from date of purchase. HP will ask for $365.00 + or - ? for this repair.
Their repair consists of a motherboard replacement.
If you go to HP's web site, you can look up your model and if in warranty, have it sent back for repair.
The problem will not get better in time but only worsen. The heat sink on the dual core units is not handling the heat transfer properly.
The board is a 2 sided wafer which has displayed failure in several places, due to the heat load and transfer design. Area of problem is directly under NVIDIA chip look for craters. Theses are solder points the size of a pins head which because of the heat and the stress of the transfer bracket above, have separated making in some cases an intermittent connection to chip.
The best thing to do is have a technician remove the board from inspection and blow out the heat sink and surrounding areas.
Apply new heat sink tape and grease where needed and re-assemble.
You must update your BIOS ver. to current.
This new version will address the Voltage and Fan Control Speeds in a better manor.
If your unit is just now giving you these errors, now is the time to act.
Just like in a A/C unit at home, a restricted air flow will make unit run longer and hotter.
Their are no filters here, once lint and dust have collected in the coils, it is just a matter of time.
Hope this helps you in your problems.
Anybody reading this note having a DV6000 series unit, should check at their web site for warranty and call back issues.

P.S. if you are a technician and feel you want to repair the board yourself, drop me an email with the model number and I will explain in more detail.

When you first turn the laptop on is there a HP splash screen? Can you enter the BIOS (normally by tapping F2 or Del key). If so then it would seem the BIOS updated OK. If when you turn it on there is nothing the BIOS flash probably went wrong and the machine will need a new BIOS flash chip installed.
If you can access BIOS then it may be a simple problem that the new BIOS reverted to default values. The most common issue would be the boot mode of the HDD. Look through the BIOS menus and there should be an option for boot which will say AHCI/IDE/Compatibility. Try changing it to another option, save and exit BIOS and see if that helps. Try this for each option.
Alternatively tap F8 continuously when you turn the laptop on and see if the advanced boot menu appears, if it does try selecting Safe mode with networking.
Finally to test if the HDD is actually working, try downloading Hiren's BootCD and boot to it. Then run some HDD diagnostics to see if the HDD is operating correctly.
Hope this helps,
