My Dad's 1985 Ford F150 Died on him yesterday. He says it started running rough like it was runnning out of gas but he thinks there is about 50 miles left in his tank(s) (his gas guage is broke so he calculates it by the mile) and so he put about five gal. in the tank and it ran smoothly for a few min and then did the same thing. well long story short he died on the way home and now the truck wont start at all it just cranks and cranks and wont turn over. We think it is a bad fule pump because it is not getting any fuel to start at all. My initial question is are there two fuel pumps, because he has two tanks? and what do you think about this problem?

Yes there are two fuel pumps of there are two fuel tanks.
One in each tank.
I assume you tried both tanks?
Best way to diagnose, put fuel in both tanks, and check each one.
The fuel pump relay in under the hood on the relay bank driver side fender.
You can provide power there on the lug going to the fuel pump. So, make sure the tank selector is working properly by setting the selector on the left tank, then turning the key to on, you should hear the pump come on for a couple seconds. Then do the same for the right tank. You need to make sure that the same pump is not coming on. Listen to each side. If that works, then the relay is OK too, and you have ruled out the pumps. Then check the valve that switches the tanks, see if there is any debris in it, or if it is even switching tanks.

Also check your fuel pressure at the fuel injector rail.

Rough running 86 4runner after e85 put in!

very likely the fuel injectors are damaged, replace them, the fuel pressure regulator and all rubber fuel lines, also pull the gas tank and replace the short rubber hose at the electric fuel pump, I know this is expensive but even a few miles of running would have wrecked havoc on the rubber components, that rubber debris will flow through the fuel system and will plug the injector's, E85 melts it and skin for that matter.

1985 f150 rough idle

An exhaust manifold leak would not case it to run rough. Check vacuum lines that go to the in take manifold. If you have a line that is open it will get too much air at idle and cause a misfire intermittently. You also need to check plug wires. How long have the plugs been in the heads. Check the rotor and cap also.

Shaking badly

My '97 F-150 started doing the same thing a few weeks ago. Took it to the Ford garage yesterday. They found a bad spark plug wire and because of that, a bad plug also. Have you had it tuned-up lately?
