My 550 is about 12 years old and when the weather gets warm and humid, frost starts to build up on the inside of the refrigerator on the back side behind the veggie drawer (left side). The temp starts to climb up, but, still maintains temp around 40 to 43F. I have checked the door seals and they appears to be okay, but, since this only happens when the humidity increases in the home, maybe the door seals needs to be replaced? I vacuum clean the condenser coil, fan & blade, compressors, and all the parts in the area equipment area twice a year. Do you have any suggestions on the cause? Also, where can a person get a copy of the service manual for this unit?
This means you are low on freon. You will get an ice ball on the bottom left side in the back of refer.

I had the same problem. It is NOT freon. Got to the point that ice would build up every few days. Talked to Subzero, they said insulation is breaking down between freezer and refrigerator (my unit is 21 years old and otherwise great). I ordered a part from them for $150 that you install in the drain tube that keeps it thawed. My husband and I were able to replace it ourselves. It was time-consuming, but has keep us ice-free for several months. Cheap fix to keep unit around without replacing. Read direction carefully. You have to remove all shelves from the inside the refrigerator, covers, to expose the coils, and have access to wiring from thermostat, light, etc. They give you all necessary parts including wiring harnesses, etc. Everything can be done inside the food area of the refrigerator. Be patient. It will all come together and was money and time well spent.

My Sub Zero has the same problem but the weather is not humid. I believe a heater is located behing the back panel and is probably not kicking on when it should.
I just noticed the exact same problem. House temp yesterday was 81 before we turned the AC on. Our unit is also 12 years old. I fiddled with the thermostat setting to test the temp setting.
I have exactly the same problem with my Sub-zero 550
Same problem for me. It started when the weather got warm. Freezes up behind the back panel of the fridge behind the veg drawer, and the ice leaks out through the holes in the shelf stanchion.
We bought our Sub-Zero 550 in 1992. This week we have frost build up
in the refrigerator on the left-hand side over the vegetable crisper. Have
cleared out the frost by breaking it up and using water-warmed cloth to
remove thin residue. But the frost keeps coming back. It's hot and
humid here in the WDC suburbs.
