There is a sensor that the clothes have to touch when the drum spins. This sensor measures how wet the clothes are. If you don't have enough of a load in the dryer then the sensor wont detect the dryness. Or it could be a bad sensor or connection or main board.
AD is auto dry you may need to clean the sensor or you may have a fauilty one ...Auto Dry
Loads dried using the Towels, Heavy Duty, Normal, Perm
Press, and Delicates cycles will dry automatically at the
selected temperature to the desired dryness level. The
dryer uses sensing bars to sense the moisture level of
the load as it tumbles through heated air. Auto Dry
cycles save time and energy and protect fabrics. The
estimated drying time will be displayed for about 5
minutes, then the outside of the display will light up in
a circular track to indicate the drying time is automatically
being determined by the sensors. When the load
has reached the selected dryness level, it will continue
to tumble, unheated, during a Cool Down period. This
helps reduce wrinkling and makes items easier to handle
during unloading. The estimated Cool Down time will be
displayed.
Drying time varies depending on size and dampness of
load and fabric type. If the load is too small or almost
dry, the sensing bars may not detect enough moisture
to continue the cycle and the cycle may end after a few
minutes. Select a Timed Dry setting to dry such loads.
Room temperature and humidity, type of installation and
electrical voltage or gas pressure can also affect drying
time.
For cycle selection turn the knob on the front of the
dryer control panel. The light will illuminate next to
the cycle selected. The following is a brief description
for what cycles should be chosen for certain items and
materials to be dried.
You have a ventilation problem. Either internally in the dryer or more likely hose behind dryer is linked or there is an obstruction somewhere from dryer to end of line outside.
During normal operation, the display may show:
“ad” - dryer is in an auto dry cycle.
“dn” - cycle is done in auto dry.
“PF” - a power failure to the board has occurred.
“Err” - an error has been detected.
“LOC” - control lock is activated.
“PAU” - cycle has been interrupted.
If you use a lot of dryer sheets, it will build up an oily residue on the sensor strips causing a "false" reading. Light sandpaper and alchohol over the strips should clean them well. Another possibility, is if you have a mixed load, ie..towels, socks, jeans , if a sock or something light keeps hitting the strips, the dryer thinks the whole load is dry (it doesn't know there are different thing in there) Try keeping loads similar when using auto dry.
From the techincal document found in the dryer bottom panel
TEST #4a Dryness Level Adjust
NOTE: If the customer is complaining about the clothes being damp and the moisture sensor passes TEST #4 "Moisture Sensor Test- step 3, then the total dry time can be lengthened by changing from a "Lo" for short auto cycle to "Hi" for longer auto cycle.
1. Activate the Diagnostic Test Mode. Press the following button sequence: MORE TIME ~ LESS TIME -+ MORE TIME --+ LESS TIME - all within 5 seconds
1. In diagnostic test mode, press and hold the Auto Dry Level key for 5 seconds. The dryer will beep and the current auto cycle mode will be seen on the display. The factory default setting is "Lo".
1. To select a different auto cycle mode, press the Auto Dry Level key again. The dryer display will flash and show either "Hi" or "Lo"
1. With the display flashing the selected auto cycle mode press the Start key to save the setting and exit diagnostics (the Start key in this mode does not start a drying cycle). The result will be stored in EEPROM of the control board.
SO EASY JUST TOOK ME 3 YEARS TO FIND IT
i got to know what cycle you are using the timed dry or the auto cycle timed dry you may have a bad timer if auto dry it coult be the auto dry resistor or it could be a clogged vent.
DO YOU MEAN IT WON'T SHUT OFF? DOES THE TIMER ADVANCE? IF IT STAYS IN THE SAME PLACE, AND YOU ARE ON AN "AUTO DRY" CYCLE, THE TIMER WON'T ADVANCE IF THERE IS A RESTRICTION IN THE EXHAUST.
DISCONNECT THE DRYER EXHAUST FROM THE BACK OF THE DRYER AND TRY ONE LOAD OF LAUNDRY. IF IT WORKS O.K., THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR DRYER DUCT WORK. HAVE IT CLEANED OUT AND TRY IT AGAIN.
Check your breakers. Mine was doing the same thing, all of the 120v parts of the machine were working. (blower/drum motor/ lights) However the element wasn't coming on. Went to the breaker and found that one side of the 2 pole breaker was tripped. Turned both off and back on. Heater started working again.
When you set the dryer on settings such as normal or permanent press, it engages the various sensors that help the dryer to make the most efficient use of energy. Moisture sensor, heat sensor etc. (THAT IS WHAT TURNS ON YOUR AD SETTING) Normally it selects a time based on factory settings that it believes your load should be dried by. Say 50 minutes at Normal (high heat, normal) Every so often during the cycle, the machine will check the humidity sensor and the other sensors and try to see if the dryer is still on schedule. Sometimes it will determine that more time is needed, occasionally less time. While it calculates, it displays the Ad meaning that the machine is on auto dry. TO TURN OFF AUTO DRY, set it to a time setting instead of a DESCRIPTION setting.
