Over a period of 2 months, refrigerator gradually went down. Sometimes working almost normal. For several weeks I used the freezer compartment for refrigeration because it didn't freeze, but the refrigerated section was almost room temperature. In the last week it all became room temperature for about 24 hours. Then it started working again. For the first time in a couple of months, I can make ice cubes. Freezer is about 20 degrees, refrigerated section about 36 degrees. What is going on? Condensor?

    Thermostat? ?? Thanks, Betty

I have a Frigidaire Top Freezer also and I am having the same problem. For a while the freezer would not freeze and then it started freezing (too much and I can not turn it down) and the food compartment quit and will not work at all. All my food was ruined! I can't understand what is wrong and would appreciate any insight.

I have the same refrigerator and the SAME problem. The freezer unit didn't work at first (for about a week) and then it started freezing solid with not way to control the temp. When that happened, the refrigerated section stopped working and has not worked since (two months). Help!!

Model wrt318fzdb01 wont keep food frozen during cold(below Freezing) weather. What can I do to fix it or is that the way this whirlpool is?

Is unit where there is no heat? Your fridge thermostat measures temperature in the refrigerator section. So if it’s 32 degrees where Fridge is located, then it doesn’t have to run to maintain 35-37 degrees inside fridge section. Thus feeezer doesn’t get cold enough to freeze.

My Kenmore Coldspot will not stop running and is getting too cold. The food in the fridge is freezing. Any suggestions to help me pinpoint the issue?

Hi,

Either you have a cold control issue or a broken damper allow too much air into that section. I would look into the air control section, top left of the refer section. If the door doesn't close it will cause a freezing effect with this section to occur. I hope this helps.

Hi I have a Maytag model MFI2568aes my vegetables and fruit chillers are freezing everything. Chiller control is moved to the top which is cold, levers on chillers are far right. HELP. Gilbert cell...

Hi,

Air is controlled by the damper located in the top portion of the refer section behind the ice maker assembly. Make sure the damper can open and close. If stuck open, this would allow air to enter all the time and cause freezing. Most likely the issue is found the the damper has failed to close when needed causing freezing. Double check the temperatures to the freezer, it can"t be any lower the -2 degrees, but you can raise it to 2 degrees to see if this corrects your temperature issue. The software was designed to bring in air from the freezer to produce ice first, then migrate to the refer section, if too cold for the freezer it would migrate into the refer causing freezing of veggies and produce.
I hope this information helps.

PSC23NSTESS FREEZING VEGTABLES

Side by Side ModelsIf foods, such as fruits and vegetables, in the refrigerator are freezing, it can be caused by several things. First, check the controls. They should be set at "C" and "5" or "5" and "5". The proper fresh food temperature is between 38 and 42 degrees Fahrenheit. The freezer should be between 0 and 8 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • If food in the bottom of the refrigerator is freezing, this could be caused by a refrigerator not having enough food to absorb the cold air.
  • If food in the door is freezing, move the door bins up or down so they are one notch away from freezer vents (Side by Side models only).
  • The fresh food control should be at the normal setting of 5.
Freezer on Top Models
First, check the controls. They should be set at "C" and "5" or "5" and "5". The proper fresh food temperature is between 38 and 42 degrees Fahrenehit. The freezer should be between 0 and 8 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Since the cold air coming into the fresh food section originates in the freezer above, the rear of the top shelf will be the coldest spot in the fresh food area. Avoid placing delicate items that freeze easily on the back half of this shelf.
  • If food is freezing in the produce (fruits and vegetables) or meat pan, it may be that the temperature controls are not set high enough. Since cold air naturally falls, the pans can get too cold if the refrigerator is not running long enough to maintain good air circulation. Adjust both controls up one notch.

FREEZER NOT FREEZING PROPERLY

There could be a large list of things that cause the freezer to warm up from the temperature it was before. The most likely reason is you probably have a defrost problem. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat and the defrost control are all things that may have failed. If your model is not a frost free let me know. Look inside freezer for a layer of frost building on the rear wall. If your refrigerator is not defrosting it will be a short time before the fresh food compartment begins to warm. To extend the time your refrigerator and freezer can keep food safe defrost by placing a bucket of hot water inside the freezer and close the door. Please place food from freezer and fresh food compartment into another refrigerator or cold storage area. By keeping doors shut as much as possible the refrigerator and freezer will last up to a week this way before defrosting again, Sea Breeze

FOOD ON MIDDEL SHELVES IS STARTING TO FREEZ

you need to send model number next time, cold air from the freezer is blown into the fridge section in this area,on some models there's a damper that controls this, the damper door doesn't close all the way when the temp.is cold enough still letting the cold air in and then food starts freezing.you'll see a tag with a model number on the left or right side up near the ceiling in the fridge section that will have the model number, you need this to order parts and to look up your machine

Too cold in bottom section

Had the same problem and referred to another post regarding ice build up around the evaporator coils in the freezer unit. I had no ice build up but flat foil guard had dropped down across the freezer outlet which caused more cold air to be forced up into the lower section of the fridge. This caused the freezing of the vegetables.
Follow barkbugs steps first www.fixya.com/support/t970724-fisher_paykel_fridge_freezer and see if that is the problem.
Also while starting to remove items from the freezer check to see if something has moved back and is blocking the air vent. Even a packet of food may cause enough blockage. A slicker pad was also part of our problem.
