Hi i have a compaq m2000 that boots up to the logo screen but then doesnt do anything more please help me

The fact that it boots up to the logo screen can be a good thing ..It means that in general it do not have a fault ..but probably the hard disk is either missing or ..it is faulty ..or the operation system is corrupted and need to be reinstalled..My advice in case you do not have a recovery partition for it ..either a recovery disk ...(came with the laptop from the seller ) ..you will have to download a image with the operation system you want..and burn it into a boot-able disk ..and after that boot from the disk and install the operation system from scratch ..
This will work in case there is nothing wrong wit it but the operation system damaged or missing ..
If you have a sata hard drive ..you also have to get into BIOS setting by pressing F10 ..(or the key indicated..) and look to the settings of the hdd and if it is on ahci mode..you have to disable it and use the sata as ide or ide compatible ..in order to make it work and see the hard disk ..
Usually when it is stuck on the logo screen there are some advices writen on the screen ..take a look cause there can be nothing wrong but you need to press F1 to get to the bios settings ..and than f10 to save the settings and continue to windows..This will be the most happy scenario and if this is the case..it means either the hdd have some issues and you will have to confirm the action with f 1 on every boot or ..it's bios battery is dead and you need to set-up the date and time before getting to windows ..
In case non of these will work ..it means the hard disk is corrupted and you need to change it and reinstall the OS
l;et me know what you have tried and how it works ..or what exactly does ..and says on screen ..

Update bios on compaq presario m2000?

There are usually two ways with Compaq's

One is with a DOS boot floppy

The other is via a windows utility

both are usually available from the support section on the Compaq website.

Heads up only do this on mains power not battery !
DON'T stop it or switch off for ANY reason

If you knew how many crashed bios questions come through Fixya.

Check the text file or only as to what problems that bios fixes and if they don't apply to you then don't do it.

Most bios updates fix very minor issues nowadays

Intel wireless card unsupported - laptop won't boot

try the driver for the PRIOR version of Windows, usually it will work. The driver for 98SE/2000/ etc. may be your fix!

M2000 compaq

I am assuming you mean you are updating the bios? If so set the laptop bios to boot to the CD drive and try that. Then after its done, boot the pc with the CD in the drive. When you are done, be sure you set the PC back to boot to the HD.

M2000 compaq

Hi,

Press F10 immediately after powering it up (before your OS boots) to allow you entry into the BIOS/CMOS configuration. Normally, there is a selection for setting every to default. Thereafter, Save & Exit.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Compaq Presario M2000

Unless your machine took a bad fall down some stairs, I am guessing you have a problem with hardware. Unplug the machine and remove the battery. Unplug any external devices like cards, USB devices and printers, etc., and then reboot. Is the hard drive running? Try F10 into setup, and then select LOAD SAFE DEFAULTS AND REBOOT, or something similar. If this does not get it going, check to see if the harddrive or memory has become unseated in their bays somehow. Turn the laptop over, remove the screws covering the little doors, lovingly and gently unscrew the harddrive retaining screw and remove it, and then put it back in and secure the screws. Check to make sure the memory modules are seated correctly, and reseat them if necessary. Then try rebooting. If you get the same problem, go into the BIOS again and check to make sure you are booting to the HDD as first, and then start turning off devices in the BIOS and rebooting in cycles until it boots. Also, try booting to CD (for example, OS installation disk) and if that works, you likely have a boot problem or hardware problem on the hard drive.

Good luck....
