  1. Cleaning a printer's printheads is an easy process. Here's how it works (in Windows). Click the Start button (or in Vista the Windows icon) at the lower left corner of your screen.
  2. Click on Control Panel. Next, choose Printers and Other Hardware, and then View Installed Printers or Fax Printers.
  3. When the Printer page opens, right click on your printer's name, and choose Printing Preferences.
  4. For the Pixma MP530, the Printing Preferences has five tabs across the top; choose Maintenance. Again, most printers should have a very similar set of options.
  5. The first button is for cleaning the printheads. You'll have to choose which printheads you want to clean (the Pixma inkjet has five cartridges). The best bet is to choose All Colors.
  6. Make sure the printer is turned on and that there's some paper loaded, then click on Execute.
  7. The printer will print out a pattern with a grid along the top and six bars of different colors. Two images will display on your monitor that you can compare to the printed image. In one, the grid and colors are sharp and clear; in the other, some of the grid boxes are missing and the colors are striped.
  8. If the printout matches the sharp, clear image, simply click Exit and you're done.
  9. If the printout has missing grid boxes or stripes, then click Cleaning. Once that's done, you'll repeat the whole process so you can ensure the cleaning was completely successful. It may take two cleanings if your printheads are really clogged.
  10. If, after two cleanings, you're still getting a poor result, there's a Deep Cleaning option on the Maintenance tab that should do the job.

The printer is not printing all letters clearly. I want to clean the printing heads to see if this will help.

To clean the print head from the control panel
1.
Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.
2. Touch Setup on the display.
3. Touch Tools.
4. Touch Clean Print Head.
The HP Photosmart cleans the print head and prints a page that you can recycle or
discard.

To clean the print head from the HP Photosmart Software
1.
Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.
2. In the HP Solution Center, click Settings, point to Print Settings, and then click
Printer Toolbox.
NOTE: You can also open the Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog
box. In the Print Properties dialog box, click the Services tab, and then click
Service this device.
The Printer Toolbox appears.
3. Click the Device Services tab.
4. Click Clean the Print Head.
5. Follow the prompts until you are satisfied with the quality of the output, and then click

I have 2 hp F2100 printers that will only print in

Problem may be clogged print heads. This not uncommon, especially if printer sat idle for an extended period. If you can see the print heads after removing the ink cartridge you can try cleaning it with a Q-TIP moistened in warm water or alcohol. You can also google "print head cleaning", there are several site that have step by step instruction for cleaning and/or removing the print head. If the head is beyond repair it is cheaper to buy a new printer than have the head replaced.

Then in the Maintenance options, you should see 'Clean Print Head' or something similar. There you can use that option to clean your print head.

How do I clean the HP designjet 110plus printhead

You need to go to the hp download site and download the System Maintenance Utility Software. Its free, but you need it before you can clean the print heads. also, for some reason it works best when hooked to the network, not directly to Computer.
