If the floor unit is not picking up, check for a broken belt for the beater brush or for a frozen beater brush.
Might be a good idea to remove the beater brush and clean it of any debris and squirt some WD40 on the two end pieces that hold the beater brush to the vacuum itself. Turn the brush by hand to be sure it is free and reassemble.
Make sure the belt is properly attached so it moves the brush in the correct direction.
If you find this to be helpful, I would appreciate you providing me with a thumbs up rating.
Thank you.

Sounds like a broken belt may have been pulled up into the machine.
Plan on replacing the belt and cleaning the beater brush.
Remove the beater brush and clean off all debris, especially at both ends. You will find a square(?) piece at each end of the beater brush that holds it in place. This need to turn freely. Put a little WD40 on these where the center rod of the beater brush enters the small holders and turn by hand until they turn freely. Once this is done, assemble with new belt if needed, making sure the belt is put on properly.
have a look at the brushes are they turning and if they are can you stop them turning if you tuch them with your hand??? if you can stop them turning the brush drive belt is slipping get a new belt and fit it,,
problem sorted!!!!
there is a belt that drives the beater brush. flip the unit over, you can remove the bottom cover by removing a couple of screws. to one side of the brush you will see a channel where the belt should be. go to you local walmart, sears or hardware store and in the vaccume section they will have belts, on each bag of belts will be a list of vaccumes that belt fits simply find yours. with the new belt simply lift the beater brush out at the belt channel side and install the belt around motor shaft and brush. then place brush back in place , be suer brush guides are in properly. this should do ya.
I believe you need to change the belt that drives the brushes. When it gets stretched out, it will just spin on the axle of the motor or spin on the brush and smoke.
YOU MAY HAVE A POSSIBLE BAD BELT OR THE MOTOR THAT RUNS THE BAR MAY BE BAD, THE OTHER POSSIBILITY IS THE SWITCH THAT TURNS ON THE BAR MAY BE BAD. OR A WIRE COULD HAVE COME OFF THE MOTOR. i THINK YOU DO KNOW THAT THE BEATER BAR DOES NOT RUN WHEN ON WOOD FLOORS.
