You don't need to set the dip switches. Locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. While holding the button on the remote press and release the smart/learn button. Your remote should now operate the door.

Is there a default dip switch setting that Harbor Breeze fans are shipped with? My parents got a new remote control for their 56” Exeter 134743 but it isn’t working. They are elderly so getting on a...

The hand control is made to a set frequency to match the fan remote receiver. If the Fan receiver frequency is different from that of the hand controller, it won't function.
Now, if the match was perfect, the other reason the hand control may not work, is if the wall switch was not turned on for the fan to run or light to go on.

I have a Heat and Glo gas log fire. It is switched on at the moment and won't switch off with remote. I have put new batteries in remote. Can someone tell me how to switch it off manually

I understand your frustration. Call 1 (888) 427-3973 if these do not work.

1) The on/off switch on the fireplace and/or wall may be in the on position. This will over ride the remote control feature.
2) The remote is in the thermostat mode (SMART-STAT and RCT-MLT models) and the temperature of the room has not exceeded the desired temperature setting by 2 degrees Fahrenheit or 1 degree Celsius.
3) Batteries in the hand-held transmitter are old and underpowered. May work up close and will not work a few feet away.
4) Hand-held transmitter is outside of the 25' of operation.
5) Hand-held transmitter has been dropped and the frequency has been moved off the frequency of the receiver.

How do I reset the hand held remote control to the ceiling fan?

I would be nice to know what make/model fan you have! Most have 4 dip switches in the receiver & transmitter. Just match the settings.

If you held the smart button in too long it erases the memory and none of the remotes will work. To program it press and hold the button on your remote and then press and immediately release the smart button.

Mind of it's own

your remote and fan is set to someone elses frequency by little toggle switches
you will have to remove fan to where it hangs make sure power off
find the remote sensor inside electric case at ceiling in the fan
this is a dip switch to control frequencies

09c4f2f.jpg you will see something like this adjust the dip switches
means change the dip switch for fan
then on remote open the remote battery pack find the dip switch in there
change those dip switches to the same as in ceiling fan
put fan together and turn back on power
your fan should now not pick up the other frequency of another remote and they have a span of about 50 yards to pick up frequencies

Minka Aire Remote control R211

You need to change the tiny DIP switch settings so each fan is set up differently. (Note that each pair of remote transmitters--the one in the fan body, held in a bracket above the light kit when you drop that down; plus the one on the wall switch or in a hand-held remote, must be set with the same combination.)
Our Minka Aire Churchill model has 4 DIP switches; I have seen Casablancas with 5.
