We have GE JVM1650 spacemaker microwave. At first it would run for 3-5 seconds and turn off. More recently it stopped heating in the middle of the alotted time. Everything works fine, no keypad problems, doesn't stop in the middle but it doesn't heat anything up. What's wrong with this thing?

sounds like possible magnatron or diode thats the case its not worth repairing. but if your handy then google model nuber and get the part be extreamly careful because of the power capacitor holds extream volts. turn off and allow to sit 15min before working on
Spacemaker t/t motors are very easy to change. Removed the screws from bottom of microwave. the bottom panel will found towards wall. Mtr is in very center of unit. Should have 2 wires going to it
Your magnetron tube is leaking RF energy inside and zapping the main board. It is NOT dangerous as any leakage will be contained inside the unit. You will need a new mag tube and it is covered by a 5 or 10 year parts warranty. Call GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737or schedule online at www.geappliances.com
could be door switches could be pcb could be mag, cap or hv transformer.. Its really just a guessing game but one of the above is defo the cause best to get a tech in to have a look or get it replaced whichevers best for yourself
If you look at consumer affairs.com, there are many problems like this with GE microwaves. Not a good track record, experiencing problems with mine as well.
I had same problem last week. My GE JVM1650 Spacemaker stopped after a few seconds of heating. Owned 16 months, manufactured Jan 2005. It was the magnetron, which was replaced yesterday. The magnetron has a 10-year warranty, but I had to pay $161.00 for labor by a GE technician. The call-out fee was waived at my request. I don't know what that amount would have been, but I can't believe the $161.00 for what was about 1/2 hour labor once diagnosed. Good Luck!
