Whirlpool Thin Twin washer won't start, just makes humming sound

I have a Whirlpool thin twin and after the washer fills with water it won't start the cycle but makes a humming sound. I thought I smelled rubber the day that it quit working. Any ideas? Thanks.

The belt is broken and needs to be checked for any other part that has failed causing the belt to burn.

    i think it has a broken coupling well..my ex put one in that rke before ..my sons girlfriend puts 2 many clothes in at a time.need to fine out where coupling,and belt are located. someone will help me put parts in..just need no where they are to look at them,and try an get the parts.

It sounds like either a faulty inlet valve/solenoid or something is restricting the water flow through the valve like a clogged strainer screen or calcification from the actual water passing through it. No cannot over ride set at large doe the machine fill to a certain level then stop if so operating correctly if it never stops filling with water then there is a leak in the fill system either a hole in pressure switch hose it popped off tub or water leaking out thru drain system pump or siphoning thru hose again if unit starts to agitate there is enough water in unit per design

I can not find your model number that you posted.
I can tell you that all whirpool thin twins up to last year were direct drive with no belt except for the dryer section. Whirlpool stackers from the early eighties did have a washer belt if yours is this old replace the entire machine.
