I have a cabrio wtw6600 that makes a clicking or grinding noise when agitating. It only makes it when the basket spins to the left and in silent when it spins to the right. The spin cycle is the normal level of sound.

This is usuallty caused by the hub assembly. You will need to remove the agitator and the hub assembly is located under it. This is very inexpensive $10 and easy to fix. Here is your part and a link to diagrams and illustrations AP3892170

Why does washer make grinding metal sounds during wash cycle only?

When it is washing, look to see if the basket is moving at all. The basket should be stationary during the agitation cycle.

Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600SBT Top Load Washer won't aggitate

My Whirlpool WTW6600 had the same problem. The tub no longer floated up and down on the center shaft, so it only spun, not agitated. You must remove the tub (with some effort) and lightly sand / clean the center shaft. Lube it lightly with wheel bearing grease so that after it is reassembled, you can pull the tub upward and feel about 1/2" movement. This will enable the proper gear assembly to engage. It can spin when it rests at the bottom of its travel, but once you fill the tub, it floats, moving upward, and engaging the agitation gear. Good Luck!

Wtw6600 washer has UL code and has trouble agitating and spinning.

The UL code means Unbalanced Load. Open the lid and move your clothes around so they are distributed evenly. Your spin cycle will then work normally.

Kitchenaid washing machine model: KAWS50JQ4 Basket does not agitate. How do I determine what parts to replace

Does the washer make a noise when it SHOULD be agitating or is it completely silent? If it's completely silent then you should check the lid switch. When closing the lid, when the lid is less than 4 inches from being completely shut, you should head and/or feel a "click" when lowering the lid. If you don't hear or feel a click, your lid switch is broken. If the washer makes a noise when it should be agitating but isn't, then it's likely that your motor coupler is broken. This is part number 285753A and goes between the motor and the transmission. Should cost around $20. If the coupler is out, the machine will not spin either, leaving clothes drained, but still very soggy. If the bottom part of the agitator moves well but the top does not, i.e. "lazy agitator" then you need a part called dogs, part number 80040, in the top of the agitator. Should cost around $3-$5

At the end of the spin cycle, my Kenmore Washing Machine makes a grinding noise like an out of balance brake drum. What could be the problem

If your washer model number starts with 110. it's a whirlpool washer. Whirlpool use a spin tube with two notches in it. There is a block assembly that holds the inner basket down on to the spin tube. This can be accessed by removing the top of the agitator and take out the 7/16 screw. Lift the agitator to expose the top of the spin tube. The tube is stripped on top where the basket sits. When the washer stops spinning, the inner basket keeps moving. That is the noise you hear. Replace the spin tube and possibly the block.

Basket won't move-noise

do you notice if it agitates?
if it doesnt agitate it is just a simple coupling
if it is making a humm noise its the motor
if a LOUD rumble ONLY on spin cycle, its the basket drive assembly and the clutch.

During agitation it sounds like it is slipping and grinding

It could be a number of issues really.  Smaller issues could be something under the agitator, etc, to moderate problems, like a motor coupler, loose basket, etc.  Could also be a major problem like a motor or transmission.  A lot of times its the motor coupler or pump making the noise.  Both are pretty easy to replace.  Maybe some more information.  Do you happen to know where the noise is coming from?  Is it coming from the front of the cabinet or in the basket area?  Any small water leaks?  Does the spin cycle work ok?  Let me know some other information and maybe we can narrow down the problem to one particuliar area.   Jim
