Microwave Sharp carousel model R-1440 appears to have had the child-proof lock feature accidentally activated--every time a button is touch on the face board, "lock" is displayed. As this unit is ~15 years old, the manual is long gone. Can you instruct as to overriding the "lock" feature?

I would expect that you have a shorting membrane keypad.

The original part number for the plastic frame with keypad was FPNLCB074MRK0 but it is no longer available.

The oven will have to be retired.

I doubt that this is a shorting membrane. I think that the child lock has somehow been engaged. To unlock the R-1440:

    1. Press the clock button.

    2. Press the [1] button.

    3. Press the stop/clear button.

    It should now be unlocked.

Most of the buttons on my Goldstar MV1604SB stopped working

Does the display on your microwave read "Locked"? If so, then the Child Lock feature has been activated. To toggle the lock off, press and hold the Stop/Clear pad for more than 4 seconds. When this feature is active, most buttons are disabled to prevent accidental microwave use.

If holding the Stop/Clear button doesn't work, then I'd suggest there is a problem with the contacts behind the buttons. Sears Parts Direct has the parts diagrams for this microwave here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Goldstar-Parts/Microwave-Parts/Model-MV1604SB/1366/0123245 . (It's better to replace the control panel then to try to fix it.) Use the part numbers from the list to find price and availability at other sites.

The manual for the MV1604SB is available from Manage My Life: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/17638/GOLDSTAR-Countertop-Microwave-L0521424?brand_name_search=loosening+tight+screws .

I hope this helps.

My mother mistakenly locked her samsung microwave. She can't figure out how to unlock it and she can't tell me what model it is. Can you help?

On a friend's Samsung (she didn't tell me her model number either), you lock the keypad by pressing "0" and then "2". Press the same sequence to unlock the pad. Maybe this will work on her model.

I have accidentally locked my microwave oven (profile performance convection oven). I was cleaning the front. Can you tell me what to do?

Got you covered. Here you go:

Microwave - Explanation of the Child Lock Out Feature
Many microwave control panels can be locked to prevent accidental use or access by children.
There are two different ways to lock the control panel:
1. Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF pad for 3 seconds. The display will show "LOCK" and then revert to the time of day.
A small "L" will appear in the corner of the display as a reminder that the control panel is locked. If anyone tries to use the microwave, the display will show "LOCK".
2. On some models, press and hold the 5 and 7 pads simultaneously for 3 seconds.
To unlock the control: Repeat the procedure which was used to lock the control. (Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF pad for about 3 seconds or hold the 5 and 7 pad simultaneously for 3 seconds.)

That info is from GE

Hope that does the trick.
