T V. remote control not working, new batteries instaled

  • cbetts Mar 08, 2009

Tiny remote control came with the TV, it dropped on the floor and has not worked since. Tried installing new batteries however it made no difference. I also tried to use a universal remote and none of the codes would work with this TV. Any suggestions!!

Have you got a phone with a camera? The easiest way to check the remote is to "fire" the remote at the camera and view the image on the screen. If the remote works at all, you should see flashes of light around the infra-red LED on the remote. If you can't see anything, you can open up the remote, check for obvious poor solder joints. Sometimes a liquid spill insulates the keypad from the carbon contactors on the rubber pads. Try cleaning the ENTIRE remote in surgical or methylated spirit. Dry the remote thoroughly and then reassemble it and try the camera technique again. I have solved lots of remote problems this way.

Good luck.

My remote won't work

Many remote controls freeze up and appear "Dead", but some can be instantly brought back to normal operation by following 4 simple steps.

Use these steps on OEM (original equipment) remote controls for TVs, DVDs, Audio Systems, Satellite and Home Theaters.
Note: If you follow these steps on a universal remote control, you will need your universal's owner's manual to reprogram it.

1) Remove all batteries from the remote
2) While the batteries are out of the remote, push and release every button on the remote control one at a time, until all buttons have been pressed and released at least once. This action drains the capacitors in the remote's circuits and causes the remote's brain to go back to factory defaults.
3) Re-install the batteries, taking care to insure each battery is installed correctly. Use new batteries if you are unsure about the batteries you removed.
4) If this Remote Re-Start procedure is going to work, your remote should now be back to normal. Try it.
If your remote works, Great. If not, you can shop for a new OEM remote control at Remotes.com 1 800 Remotes Factory original replacement remote controls

My remote control does not get the light on with batteries brand new...remote control does not work

Check the battery contacts in its battery comparment for any rust or dust accululated. Clean them well before insrting batteries. If all are OK, the fault should be with its internal circuit board. If so, you have to open the remote control to rectify it. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, check this link.

My remote control does not work suddenly

Try installing new batteries such as Duracell batteries. Make sure they are installed properly in the remote with positive to positive nodes and negative to negative node. If you own a digital camera, you can test the remote to see if it is working. Point remote at camera (powered on) and press a button on the remote. If you see a blue / purple light on the remote's led, then the remote is working. If not, then the remote is probably broken and you need to buy a new one.

Sony RM-Y180 remote control

Did you install the batteries correctly?
Some remotes (Universal) need to be re-programed when you install new batteries.
Go to remotefinder.rca.com/default.aspx?site=rca for proper codes.
