If this is for Vista but should work for XP too go to this page.
Bookmark the page and then select the driver(s) you want and download them. Make a note of the fie name as it doesn't make sense to the purpose of the softpac.

I HAVE A C765TU NOTE BOOK AND I HAVE THE SAME AUDIO DRIVER PROBLEM, THEN ONE OF OUR GOOD FRIENDS ADVISED ME TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL SP33867.EXE FROM FTP.HP.COM BEFORE INSTALLING SP34200.EXE(CONTEXTANT HD AUDIO DRIVERS) I DID THE SAME AND MY PROBLEM IS SOLVED. TRY IT BUT HEY! NO GUARANTEE......

Compaq Presario C765TU Audio Driver
Hi,

For a Compaq Presario C765TU Notebook PC running Windows XP, audio drivers would be for Conexant High-Definition Audio (sp32823.exe). Importantly, SoftPaq Number SP31994, "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA)Bus Driver for High Definition Audio," (or later) must be installed onthe notebook before installing SP32823.
  • sp31994.exe 1/1 (6.12M) (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp31501-32000/sp31994.exe)
  • sp32823.exe 1/1 (6.12M) (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32823.exe)
