Wiring for jenn air jed8230

Cant figure out the wiring for this electric down draft model. The cooktop has green, white, black and red wiring. I have black, white and ground coming from my service. I connect black to black, white to white, double grounded and have the red wire left. I have insulated that wire. When I re-energize the breaker, I can get the fan to work but no heating elements. Can someone tell me what I need to do?

Hi,

with the indulgence of the others...

To my knowledge, the:
green - ground
white - neutral
black - 120 to ground
red - 120 to ground but between red & black, it should be 240. A Jenn-Air JED8230 requires a 3-wire, 120/240 Volt, 60 Hz Outlet.

Pls consult/confirm with your local electrical utility/codes the availability/applicability of this power/wiring system or reference National Electrical Code, NFPA No. 70

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Well it sounds to me like they didnt run the proper service from your breaker box from the cooktop hook green and white to your house ground then blk to blk and white to red try that now your colors from your house service should have blk and blk white and ground or blk and red white and ground pull your breaker cover and see if blk and white arent hooked to the breaker if they are then they are both hot

Do i connect the red and black wires together

No you do not. You have a 220 system. What you do to hook it up is. In the box in the wall you should have 3 wires. 2 black and one white. Then on the cooktop you have the 3 wires 1 black, 1 red, and 1 white. You take the black from the cooktop to the black in the wall box. Take the red to the other black in the wall box. then take the whites and put them together. Now if you have a green or bare wire that is the ground. Just hook that to the wall box.

If you have any questions please ask.

We have a jenn air outdoor cooktop. The right side didnt work so we took apart and blew circut breaker. Now we are trying to re wire but dont know where the green ( ground) connects. Canyou please help?

Hi, depending on your local electrical code:and I see that the unit is 240 Volts A.C., then RED=Power/Black=POWER(L1 & L2)/WHITE="N"Neutral/and GREEN=SAFETY GROUND,on the new unit, then use from the wall power BLACK = L1 and White= L2. then on the unit RED=L1 and BLACK=L2(either way you hook these 2 up there isn't a polarity issue on these 2 wires) on the units hook-up/then use the BARE supply wire as neutral and tie BOTH WHITE and GREEN from the unit together to this BARE wire..

Take care

How to wire a jennair cooktop. I have 3 black wires all hot. The cooktop has 4 wires black, red, white, and green(ground)

Hi,
The wire coming in should have the same colors, just match up the wire colors and wire nut them together with large wire nuts ad them tape them. ground the green wire to the ground screw.
That's all there is to it!

Jenn Air cooktop has 4 wires Black, white, red, and green and my house supplies power with 3 leads white, black , & green. How are the wires hooked up to power the unit?

Old plug: green is ground, white and blace are both hot power. New cooktop: green is ground, WHITE is COMMON, black and RED are hot power. You are going to need an electrician to run a new circuit and plug for your new cooktop.
