I just purchased a DELL Inspiron .. running Windows 7. It says if I just plug in my Cannon MX 310 Printer/Fax that Windows will recognize it and set it up for me. I see that it definitely creates an entry in the printers but I cannot print to this printer .. the job logs and then apparently prints but the print out never comes. Behavior is that everything is working correctly but these print outs are definitely not going to my default printer. Any suggestions?

If you have a wireless router with a wireless network then -

Configure the IP address your wireless printer, (this is done through the printer's menu settings) make sure it matches the IP address range on your wireless network, it maybe 192.168.1.*** then configure the wireless printer with a fixed IP address with the same IP address range but at a higher address eg. 192.168.1.10 so it does not clash with any other IP addresses.
Next install the printer driver normally.
Then configure the printer Properties.
Click Start - Printers and faxes - right click on the your printer - click Properties - Port tab - click Add Port - Standard TCP/IP port -
Port Name eg. 192.168.1.10
Printer name eg Network printer
Click OK
Then do a TEST print if it does not work then the IP address is probably incorrect.

You will need a Serial to USB converter dongle that you can buy from a local shop as Dell Inspiron 560 does not have serial ports. Also your disc with the printer driver will not work as it must have got drivers for Windows XP on it and as I assume this is a new computer then it will have Windows 7 operating system.

uninstall the drivers for the hard drive then reboot install drivers that came with drive and then plug it in.

what error is it displaying, plz check weather your printer is windows 7 compatible or not.

There is no Windows 7 driver planned as this printer is obsolete on the cannon website.
It does not even support windows XP or Vista, only up to Windows 2000.

If your Canon MX-310 has been set up to print faxes as they are received, then what is actually in memory is a "received fax report". If you select a particular fax in this report, it will print the first page of the fax to remind you of the content.

Your Canon MX-310 will store fax documents in memory if:

• Ink is low or has run out
• The paper size and type is not set correctly
• Paper has run out
• The Output Tray is closed

With the document open, you click Print, then choose Cannon ...Fax.

Hi, I will assume that you are installing the Canon MX 310 to a Windows machine. Before going thru the install procedure, please check that you have USB enabled by right click on My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, and at the very bottom USB Controllers should be there with no red or yellow markings. If they are not there, please restart your machine, press del or whatever it is to enter CMOS/BIOS setup and verify that the USB ports are enabled. In some instances, it may take some time before the PC recognizes the USB device such as your printer. You really have to give it time or one trick is to Cancel the printer port detection and just go ahead with the installation. When all is installed and finished, you can change the properties of the printer to USB port from the Parallel/LPT1 port. Another is to plug the printer straight in to the USB port (or try all the other USB ports) without installing it first. Allow/let Windows to autodetect and auto install. Put in the CD only when Windows does not know where the drivers/installers are located. Hope this be of some idea/help. Post back should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
