Try this...remove the batteries and card...press every button...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the batteries...turn it on.

I have to set the date everytime I switch it on

On this camera you have a supplemental litte battery that is just beside the AA batteries. If you pull on the little tab that says CR 1220 you will find a battery that looks like a battery watch. Just replace it, go back into your date/time settings and you should be good to go! It worked for me!

When I change my AA batteries, I lose my date and time.

Hi there!

You can still set the date and time for this camera. Just follow the steps found on this website: Set Date and Time for Olympus FE-140.

Best regards!

Can't turn camera on; batteries are new

possible solution:
Remove memory battery (little gray cap next to the AA batteries. Got CR1220 stamped on it) and put it back in. This should do a reset. When you switch the camera back on it should ask for the date/time. Hope this works for you.

My wife is complaining that every time she turns off/on the camera she has to reset the data/time. I understand that when the batteries are changed the settings may be lost, but not simply when the camera...

Sounds to me that there may be another battery inside the camera that is going bad.

Issue: Everytime I power on the camera the Date / Time needs to be set.
Solution: Replacing the Date Battery for the PowerShot A480.

Replacing the Date Battery. If the Date/Time menu appears when the camera power is turned on, the date battery charge is low and the date and time settings have been lost. Please purchase a lithium coin battery (CR1220) and replace it as follows.
Please note that the first date battery may appear to expire relatively quickly after you purchase the camera. This is because it is installed in the camera at the point of manufacture, not when you make the purchase. caution.gifBe particularly careful to keep the date batteries out of the reach of children. Seek medical assistance immediately if a child swallows a battery since corrosive battery fluids can damage the stomach or intestinal walls. 1. Confirm that the camera power is turned off.
2. Open up the battery door / cover and remove the AA Batteries.
3. Remove the date/time battery holder.
4. Grasp the battery and slide it in the direction of the arrow.
a480backupbatt.jpg 5. Insert a new battery with the (+) side facing up.
6. Replace the battery holder and battery cover.
7. When the Date/Time menu appears set the date and time.
note.gif After purchasing the camera and turning on the power for the first time, although the Date/Time menu will appear, you do not need to replace the date battery. If you ever dispose of your camera, first remove the date battery for recycling according to the recycling system of your area.

Canon A470 The date and time menu keeps popping up every time I switch on the camera despite setting the date and time.

There is another battery next the the AA battery under a little cover marked CR1220. That is the battery size. If that battery is dead, or has never been installed then every time you change the AA batteries the camera will forget the time and date. Try to get one from a specialty store that turns over its inventory quickly and you may find that you will only change this battery every 2 or 3 years.

Fuji FinePix S9000 battery change clears date/time.

Hi

I started having a similar problem with my Fuji FinePix F10 after about 3 1/2 years of problem-free use. Another poster had some really helpful advice which I thought I'd pass on. It seems there is an internal battery or capacitor which basically fails after a while, meaning date/time settings etc are lost when the battery is removed. (Some people claim this is a motherboard/chip problem instead - seems to be contentious!) So the camera is faulty, but the problem can be worked around.

The advice I found, which worked for my camera, was this:

- Turn off camera and leave off for approx 15 seconds before opening battery door.
- Change battery quickly (within a few seconds).
- Close battery door and leave camera off for approx 15 secs before turning back on.

This retained all settings when I tested it multiple times. I imagine it might not work if changing over a totally dead battery though.

Hope it helps!

Need to reset time and date every time I turn on camera.

The backup battery needs to be replaced. This small button battery (CR1220) provides the power for your camera to 'remember' settings when you change or remove the AA batteries. Instructions for changing this battery are in the manual on page 191 (US version of manual).
You can view/download the manual here.

Adjusting date and time

According to Canon, the backup memory lithium battery (interal) recharges off the main AA batts that you put in... the manual says it takes about 4 hours to charge this battery.
When not in use, leave the AA batts in the camera .. see if this helps keep the date/time memory!
