Just having the wireless router without connecting it to cable modem or DSL modem will not allow you to get onto the Internet. The wireless card in your computer/laptop will allow you to get onto the Internet at a free public WiFi hot spot location such as McDonalds, Star Bucks, at the airport.
Also the wireless card in your computer/laptop may allow you to connect into an unsecured wireless router from your neighbors, if their wireless router is within range of your computer/laptop but without their permission to use their Internet, it is considered stealing from your neighbor. They have a set download limit from their Internet Service Provider and by you connecting to their ISP you may cause them to exceed their download limit and they would be charged additional costs for every Mega byte over their limit.

Netgear MGT624: My netbook shows its connected to my router but

Re4place your Wireless Access code as set up with router control program. Often wireless access is denied when mistakes are made with this pass code. Just replace whatever code you have with another (simpler?) code or even going to "None" for Security. To try and establish comm through the router, if it succeeds with no security try again with perhaps WPA-[TKIP] coding.

How do I ecrypt my internet connection

Encryption (WEP) is enabled/configured on the wireless router (access point) for the wireless network. If this is your home network, then you need to be the one to set-up the encryption on the router first, then you 'join' the encrypted network using 'keys' you created during the configuration on the router. If this appears to be written in 'gerneral' terms, it is true because each router manufacture does it a bit differently.

If you are joining a 'public' WIFI connection that does not have security, you will not be able to encrypt it since the router is providing an 'open' non-secure access.

Location that present secure encrypted access will provide you with the 'key' to access the network, which you add to the set-up configuration of your adapter via the driver properties of your operating system

Sierra Wireless AirCard 595U And PS3

I understand that you want to connect the PS3 using the Wireless card and NETGEAR card. Please note that the setup you have will not work for internet access. You can not configure the Air card to work with NETGEAR router. you need to have wih a broadband connection available for this router to connect to internet.

Once you have the router configured with Internet access then you may either connect the PS3 wired or wireless to the router, like you connect a desktop or laptop to the router.

Netgear Router WGR614 will not connect to internet

Hi,
Looks like when you reset the router you have lost all yur configuration and back to the default factory settings.

Bridge the 5100 first.
1. In your web browser browse to »192.168.0.1 This address will be located on a yellow sticker on the bottom of your modem.

2. The first screen will ask you for your Modem Access Code. This also will be located on the same yellow sticker.

3. Select Advanced from the blue buttons on the left.

4. Click the PPP locations button.

5. The modem may ask your for the Modem Access Code again. If so type it in again and click continue.

6. Select the radio button labeled, "Bridged Mode (PPPoE is not used)"

7. Click Save Changes.

8. A "PPP Location Warning" page will come up. Click "Change PPP Location."

9. A "Restart Needed" page will come up. Click "Restart"

10. Reboot your computer and and then connect the router

11.Configure the router for PPPoE using your ISP uid/pass

12.Configure your wireless using WEP

13.Desktop : Using Dell wireless client configure the client using the same SSID ,wep as configured in the router
Laptop : follow the same as desktop

(by default dell wirelesss client takes over the wireless configuration in dell pc.to disable it and use windows wireless client..control panel ->administrative tools -> services -> enabl2 wireless zero configuration)

14.after all configuration shut the desktop, laptop, router, mdm and pwr them in seg..first modem and then router and then your desktop or laptop

Wireless network setup

Hi,

Based on your post, you currently have a working Netgear WiFi Card installed in your laptop. What you want to do is remove it from the laptop and install the said card to your desktop.

For your desktop to be able to accept the NetGear WFi card which is a PCMCIA Cardbus device, you need to install either:
1. a USB Adapter for PCMCIA as shown here; or
2. a CardBus/PCMCIA to PCI Adapter Card available here.

Either one will work. Of course you need to install the necessary drivers for the NetGear MA701NA in your desktop which is available from the CD installer that came with the NetGear or online here.

Considering the cost of the USB adapter or the PCMCIA to PCI card, you may want consider buying a PCI WiFi card or USB WiFi dongle.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Resolution of NETGEAR NTP Issue

NETGEAR and the University of Wisconsin ? Madison have identified an issue with how some NETGEAR routers utilize the network time protocol (NTP) public time service provided by the University. Specific NETGEAR home routers rely on public time services provided by the internet community. If a specific public access NTP server is unavailable, these routers will not be able to synchronize their time with the public NTP server. As a result, features such as logging, email alerts, and time-based URL filtering may experience a degradation in time-keeping. Overall router functionality is unaffected. Network traffic to the specified time server, however increases as the router tries to obtain the time. ?As soon as the issue was identified, NETGEAR worked closely with the University of Wisconsin - Madison to understand the issue and minimize any impact,? said Annie Stunden, CIO at the University of Wisconsin. ?NETGEAR has taken a leadership role in working with the University to ensure a reliable networking experience for its customers and to establish best practices for interfacing with our public access servers.?
