    The batteries eventually wear out and quit taking a charge. You can run the system without a battery with no ill effects. replacements are about $100 for a new battery

    Mine is dell latitude d620 laptop.battery is new.problem is it was running both on ac and battery.suddenly battrey is not taking the charge but my laptop runs on ac power. can i remove the battery and run it on ac for some time and then will put the battery?is it risky ? This trouble maybe power supply or inverter boards is defective.

    IF you are not using a Dell charger that is the first thing to try. They are proprietary and wont run the laptop in some cases involving the battery. There could also be an issue with the MOSFET power transistors that may have happened at the same time. This is not easy to check or repair.

    if not the AC pack can be bad, a cheap fix that.
    No cure,? the RTC coin cell battery deep inside is bad.
    yes cured, great, no cure, then remove RAM sticks and reseat them.
    cured now?
    the beep means hard fault, there are up to 20 things inside that can fail.

    Dell precision m90 wont start up
    precision m90 LAPTOP PC. 14 years old came with XP.


    the screen is dead , does the monitor work on other PC?

    fans in PC spin , heard or seen.?
    step on ALL LAPTOPS remove the now very very old big battery now and test the LAPTOP with only the AC power pack as power.
    work now/ ? yes, then buy a new battery.

    next is the RTC coin cell ,none last 14 years either .

    very common this on all PCs in fact
    what does the screen show only the logo?
    no errors. beeps, blink codes/
    step one varies by what it is? a notebook take the big battery out
    and on AC power pack only
    the hold the power button for 10 full seconds and release it.
    the 3 top failures are 2 batteries bad. and hdd failure.
    super common this at 5 years old par.

    Dell inspirion 1545, turn the power on and the screen shows inspirion loading. then the fan speeds up and slows down then the pc shuts down
    a laptop and all those we take out the old useless shorted battery now, and run on AC pack only , even for ever.

    that is test 1.

    the next most common failure is, the vents and whole PC is packed in lint and overheats, endless failures here.......endless.

    all PCs slow down when too hot, by DESIGN.
    first BIOS does that then Intel inside does it next.

    Hello, it would be good to know if the Laptop has valid its guarantee and on the other hand if it receives battery charge, without making some measurements it's difficult to give an accurate diagnosis; it's possible that it's an element of the board (circuit) it's necessary to measure the voltage and other components to determine if there is a problem with the voltage delivered by the charger.
    We can perform a battery reset to check and have an idea.

    Sometimes the Adapter Charges other times Doesnot, and now finally out, cant charge!
    Possible cuase:
    1 AC adapter failure
    2 Power jack failure

    First replace it with another working charger, see if the problem gone. If not, there may be strong possibility that the power jack was broken.

    Here below are some common symptoms of a bad charger.
    -The laptop only runs when you keep the power cord in a certain direction.
    - The laptop only runs on battery power.
    - The laptop will not charge the battery.
    - The laptop switches from AC power to battery power intermittently.
    - The unit suddenly shuts off
    - Sparks come out of the back of the laptop.

    Yes you can still use it without the battery. Of course you will need a battery replacement to surf without AC power.

    Laptop won't staart up.
    Hi,
    Yes, it should run off AC power even if the battery is removed. Sounds like either the motherboard or your AC adaptor might be failing. I would start by trying the AC adaptor with another dell to verify it it's not dead.
