I keep getting a message that says: "Cartridge Error: Replace cartridge on left." I've replaced BOTH cartridges, to no avail. I spent an hour with the HP Chatline Tech and went through the routine of power off, press this and that, clean the cartridges and receptacles, etc.--to no avail. Upshot was an offer to buy upgrade. Any thing else to try other than buying a new printer?
Well..did the printer cartridges come from HP?
These types of severe cartridge errors (i.e. refer
to documentation, incompatible cartridges, print cartridge(s) problem etc.)
typically indicate the internal micro-electronics of the HP 92-99 cartridge
are damaged. The cartridges electrical wire runs at rear and lower side of the
ink cartridge, are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible to ink attack over
time, which can lead to premature failures. In addition, the older the
cartridge the higher the chance of an internal electrical failure. I
suggest you first run a Tap 41 diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical
health (this is a forced test).
For the HP
OJ 6210/6310/7310 it is possible to confirm the HP 92-99 ink cartridges
electrical health by running the Tap 41 diagnostics test:
a.
Load Letter -size paper into paper feed tray.
b.
Press the * and # keys simultaneously.
c.
Enter 124 (or 123 on some models) at keypad.
d.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the System
Menu. Select Ok.
e.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the print-mech
tap test menu. Select Ok. LCD screen
should display code = 0.
f.
Use the arrow keys to enter code = 41 (or just
enter 41 on keypad). Select Ok.
The Tap 41 diagnostic test pattern should begin to print. Refer to video
below on how to generally analyze printed diagnostic pattern (HP 98 cartridge is
similar to the HP 901 though the number of black & color nozzles is
different; the HP 92/94/96/98 is technically the same as the HP 74 black ink
cartridge). See Note below.

Officejet J4500-J4600 Printer Tap 41 Diagnostics -HP 901 Incompatible Print
Cartridges (HP OJ6200-6300 printers use similar service menu access):

NOTE: Providing the color cartridge is partially
functioning the Tap 41 diagnostic test print will be printed (this is a forced
service print test which is mainly used for the evaluation of ink cartridge electrical
health. A good HP 93/95/97 color cartridge should display 600 good nozzles,
while a good HP 92/94/96/98 black ink cartridge should show 672 good nozzles.
Refer to video above on how to read the printout.

I was away for 3 weeks and when I turned everything on, I got the same message. I changed cartridges and the message continues.
Help! I have HP 6310 all-in-one.
I have the same "replace cartridge" problem. The cartridge is HP. I have cleaned the contacts, but I still can't get it to work. I may have to buy a new printer!!!
Same problem: replace cartridge and place it back. error keeps repeating
Have not yet called the helpdesk, seems useless.
