Gas dryer not heating up. We can see glow of ignitor and the flame will come on for the first time for 3 minutes then goes out and the glow comes on again for 1 minute and we hear a couple clicks then the glow goes off and repeats itself again and again, but the flame does not come on again. We replaced thermal fuse already.

The problem is the dryer coils are failing. They tend to fail as they heat up. Here is a link that should help troubleshooting a gas dryer.

Whirlpool dryer heating sporadically?

Remove the lower front panel and turn dryer on. The ignitor should glow bright orange first. After Ignitor glows brightly the next thing will be the flame lighting as the gas valve opens with a click. All this should happen within about a minute or so.

If flame comes on but goes off quickly It's likely one of the Gas valve coils is opening a break in the coil as the coil heats up. This coil will shrink when cool and be able to run again. The coils are purchased as a kit.

If ignitor goes off and no flame comes on the coil kit is likely needed because one coil is fully broken inside its case. If flame goes on but shuts off shortly the problem is as described above and the kit is needed.

There is a flame safety assembly on the can above the burner. If the airflow is poor. the flame tip may activate that safety and turn the flame off. Or the flame switch may be open and not allow the flame to come on at all.

The Flame switch can be tested for continuity with an ohmeter but the valves may ONLY show bad with power applied and can not be tested with a meter as they will test good.. Good Luck

I have a GE gas dryer DBVH512GF1WW. The heat is inconsistent. I noticed the ignitor glowing and then a flame shortly after on the initial time I turned the dryer on. Then after the flame going out after...

sounds like bad gas coils located on top of the gas valve, when the coils start to fail the ignitor will glow, the coils let the gas in until the coils heat up and then ignitor glows but no gas.when the coils cool down they might work again for a short time until they heat up and fail again.if the flame lights and goes out after like 30 seconds and goes out and keeps doing this you have a block either in the dryer or the vent line but it sounds like you have bad gas coils.unplug the dryer, get at the valve, pull off the wires going to the coils and check them with a meter, one should be open, just remove the two phillips screws pull off the cover and slide the coils up off of the posts, unplug them and put the new coils on,you'll see like a little piece of plastic on the top of the coils, this fits intoo the cover so they line up correctly and holds them in place, also on the larger coil there's a spacer on the post,if you don't see it look inside the old coil, poke out the spacer and slide it onto the post and then install the coil.

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

Whirlpool gas dryer Model #WGD5530SQ0 not heating properly

If your dryer heats when you first turn it on and after a few minutes it does'nt. check the ignitor to see if it is glowing. It should glow bright then you will hear a click and the burner will light. If the ignitor glows bright but you hear a click but no flame and if you watch this for several minutes and this process continues of glow then glow goes out no flame, then you have a bad burner coil. There are 2 black solenoids sitting on top of gas valve. One of them is shorting out after it warms up. Replace both solenoids. You can usually get them as a kit from parts store.

Either the venting needs cleaned or the coils on the gas valve are bad. Unhook the venting from the back of the unit and run. If works ok then clean venting. If you still have the problem, replace the two coils on top of the gas valve.
