Dear sir, i have my philips mp3 ipod as sson asi connect it to my pc (windows 7) a pop up ballon appears for device driver installation which tells not successful. then my ipod starts charging. as sson as i stop scharging it show file system error. i need to format it but can't see it in my pc. kindly help. For sure, the file system is corrupted and is the cause of your woes. The fix lies with the Philips Songbird software. If you do not have Songbird, download it for Windows or Mac here:http://www.usa.philips.com/c/mp3-media-player/22126/cat/en/#/difference/philipssongbird.

Once you have Songbird installed, launch it and select "Repair my Philips device" in the Tools menu. Select your device and follow the instructions specific to your device. For example, instructions for the GoGear Vibe are to disconnect the device, power it down completely, and hold the volume-up key during and after USB connection until the message window disappears.

If the repair utility endlessly indicates it is checking for updates, you are likely using an out-of-date version of Songbird - probably the one that came with your GoGear. If this describes your situation, launch Songbird and select "Check for updates" in the Help menu. This will at least get you upgraded to version 1.9 (currently), even though the latest version is 1.11 (currently).

Instructions that came with some older versions for connecting GoGear in repair mode were incomplete. They left out a crucial step of turning off the GoGear and waiting for it to power down completely before reconnecting in repair mode. Newer versions of Songbird include the ability to reformat the device, reset the device, and to get progress updates during synchronization.

There has been an issue with the recent iPod update where it leaves the device in Recovery Mode. Here are some steps that have been known to fix this problem for Windows users:
1. Disconnect your iPod from the computer.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Connect the iPod to the computer.
4. Select Install Drivers Later on the dialog that appears.
5. Hold down the Windows Key and press R.
6. Type devmgmt.msc and click OK.
7. Right-click Apple Mobile Device listed under Other Devices and then select Properties.
8. Select Browse...
9. Point it to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support and click OK.
The install should finish and your iPhone should now be all good.

If this doesn't resolve your problem, try this:
  1. Open iTunes and connect the iPod to your PC or Mac.
  2. Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
  3. After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode.
  4. The iPod screen will remain black. Using iTunes, restore your iPod.

My mp3 player will not work, I reset it many times and it also will not sync with my PC.

If you have Windows Vista or Windows Media Player 11, go ahead and upgrade the firmware at www.usasupport.philips.com
Download the newest version of the Philips Device Manager:
www.usasupport.philips.com - change your country/language as needed
Enter in your exact model #
Click on the link for your exact model #
Click on the Software & Drivers section
Click on "Firmware Upgrade Software"
Install the new Device Manager
Open and run the "Update" tab

As long as the hold/lock key is not engaged, the following will force the PC to recognize most GoGear mp3 players:
Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.


If these methods fail, call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

When i turn on my mp3 getting error as " connect to PC and repair through device manager"

If you have lost your installation CD, go to Philips website and download/install the most recent version of the Philips Device Manager for your exact model #. Then open the Philips Device Manager and select the "Repair" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course).

If the Device Manager does not recognize that your mp3 player is plugged into the computer:
Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged
Try another USB port
Reset the player

If that fails:

No device connected

Try installing the newest version fo the software from the Philips website first.

Enter your model number
On the next page, click on your exact model number without the "B" on the end
On the next page, click on "software and drivers"

If that fails:
Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).
