Optiarc cd-rw crx880a ata device: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I inserted a cd into my cd drive to rip music using Windows Media Player and discovered that I no longer have a CD drive. The message in WMP read: "A CD drive is needed in order to rip music from CDs". I checked my Device Manager and found that I have "Optiarc cd-rw crx880a ata device" for my DVD/CD-ROM drive. I double-clicked, and the message in the General tab reads: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" A have used my CD drive many times, the last time I used it was in March or April. What could have happened to disable usage of my DVD/CD-ROM and how can I get it restored? Thanks in advance.

Did you try to click "Troubleshoot" on the page that reported "cannot start" ?

Did you try to click on the device, and choose "uninstall" ?
Then, rebooting Windows should cause Windows to "find new hardware", and properly configure the DVD/CD drive.

My optiarc cd crx880a ata device is not working it is not reading any disc

Most probably your Sony optiarc cd crx880a could be defective. If warranty period is still valid, go back to your vendor for a warranty claims.

FYI - Optical drives never require a driver on Windows OS from Win95 up. Windows XP, Windows Vista and Win 7 both provide native (IDE)
