Haier 37" LCD TV...need a power supply

The main dc reservoir in the power supply must have burst. This capacitor 47 to 100 MF/400V also releases lot of smoke when it bursts. Most of the times you just have to replace it and the tv works fine.

Price the board first and then decide, I fix these in our shop but do not like or enjoy working on them at all.

Check for any bursted electrolytic capacitors on its main power supply regulator board. The sound you heard might be to this burst. Take care, and unplug the TV from AC mains supply wall socket, before opening and checking this board. See examples of bulged [bursted] capacitor.

Commonly that trouble is cause of faulty capacitors on power supply board...

Please follow this step on how to fix that problem on your own..

1. Open the back cover of your TV.
2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..
3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..
4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..
5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter..

Tv have problems with it power supply board,that the board where the power a/c cord plug into it.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole new refurbish power supply board for the replacement.Or u have all the tools also can do basic soldering and u know basic electronic too?Yes,check the whole power supply board carefully for dying and dead capacitors parts.These capacitors parts alway bulges up or puffing up onto it tops.Replaced all these dead bad capacitors components parts,should get the tv power back to the tv unit again for good.

Did water actually entered into the TV?

A burst capacitor can splash liquid on the power supply board. So check for any burst/blow capacitor on the power supply board..... Also be ready to make replacement.

Capacitors tend to pop when they fail. Phillips LCD TVs have lots of problems with capacitor failures in their power supplies. I've got my 37mf231d apart on my workbench as we speak. Mine makes a whistling sound which I believe is either a solder fault or a bad capacitor.

A new power supply board is about $150 for that TV. The gamble, of course, is if the power supply took out something else when it failed.

I had the same prob, but found out that the problem with the Olevia lcd tv's on most models not powering up is because of failure of capacitors on the power supply board that I do believe is due to excessive heat and lack of ventilation.

I took the tv apart and got access to the main board and just by looking at the capacitors I could tell which one were the bad ones..

I will show some pics that I borrowed during my repair, hope it helps as reference as it did to me.





I replaced the bad caps with new ones that I bought at a computer parts store.

Now I got my lcd tv back ON but this time I added a internal cooling fan for better air flow that will reduce this malfunction from happening again.
