Steam coming out from bottom?

* Larger espresso machines use a solenoid or valve to allow steam (under pressure) to exit out of the steam wand. (see below for my links on how to change these types of solenoids.)
* Smaller table top home units use a small vibration water pump (ULKA) to pump water into a preheated boiler.
* The boiler is kept hot (takes about 3-5 mins to heat up.) then water is pumped in to the open heated chamber. Steam is forced out the exit port.
* Sometimes (after long use) the boiler or wand may clog up and introduce a back pressure to the pump. This may cause a failure in the pump and the seals. (no steam from wand but lots of steam coming from the unit housing.)
* To repair the smaller units requires the replacement of the pump.
* The boiler should also be check for clog or bad heating element.
* Check the boiler themostat (regulates the temperature)
* Check the boiler High limit.(prevents fire if boiler overheats.)

Coffee machines that are not maintained daily will clog up if residue coffee is left in the machine to dry up. Steam boilers tend to crust up as the calcium in the water drops out of solution and coats the tank, pipes, and valves. These are the most common problems which require a repairman. Most home machines do not have serviceable parts.

It does not say, what causes high level of water in the steam boiler. ... High pH in your water supply can cause foaming and water feeder troubles; .... Hopefully, your pressure gauge is working, and if it is at 1.2 bar or so, then you have a failed anti-suction valve or boiler safety valve.
The ASV is the smaller fitting; it might be stuck, so you could try tapping the little button. The boiler safety valve is another matter - it will open at some point past 1.8 bar, which means the pressurestat is shot or its adjustment has been tampered with.

It's most likely the ASV - they do get stuck open as well as closed...

When you are done steaming, just press the water button and open the steam valve again. This will purge the steam and cool the boiler back down. When it is cool enough the display will change back to "product ready for use". Have something under the steam wand as this is where the steam and water will come out.

It is probably your steam thermostat that needs to be replaced. There are 2 thermostats. The Brew and steam. If one of them fail it won't heat the boiler for that mode. They are easy to replace.

Open the steam valve when you turn the machine on that will vent out the boiler, keep it open until it starts to hiss slightly and produce small steam bubbles, then close and machine should heat to temp. If that solves your problem then the vent valve needs to be replaced, until then you can turn using the steam valve open trick.

Your thermostat has failed. The middle button is the pump. The bottom button is for the steam mode. If you are getting steam instead of hot water when using the pump, then the boiler is way too hot. Either adjust the thermostat or try descaling the boiler.
