I am having difficulty with my machine. When I press the "Steam" button with the steam valve closed, the boiler heats up as it should. However, before the ready light comes on, steam/coffee grinds explode all over the place out the bottom? I never get to the point where the light comes on and I can produce steam out of the wand. I tried it again with the handle removed thinking there was a problem with the basket -- but steam just pours out of the screen -- I'm pretty sure NOTHING should be coming out of here without the brew switch on! At this point if I open the steam valve, steam *does* come out of the wand and stops coming out of the bottom.
Now if I don't touch the "steam" switch and only use the "brew" switch, i can get a shot of espresso -- but I am completely unable to steam milk without making a mess or worse, getting burned!
It sounds like your steam thermostat is bad and needs to be replaced. Be careful, in this situation the machine will not stop heating and you could get hurt. I would recommend getting the machine repaired or if you would like to try it yourself you can contact us on our website and we would be glad to provide you with the correct part.

SOURCE: Lavazza point espresso machine no steam
Sounds like a clogged steam pipe or a jammed two-way valve. First, I would try unfolding a small paper clip and then stick it up the spout of the steam pipe. if this does not free up the steaming arm then it is most likely a clogged two way valve.
