There are as many belt diagrams as there are mowers. You will need your model number to get the correct diagram. You should find this under the seat or on the very back of the unit. sorry can't help more at this time, when you get this, you can get online and go to sears and you will find it there.

The belt # for a Craftsman 42" deck is 75-197 replaces belt # 144959. (1/2" x 953/8" in length.) I recently purchased this belt it,was the correct size.Sincerely,Brad Locke

My parts man said it was easy to install the large belt. Before I tackled the job I checked online (here) and it looked very scary. I was told there was a diagram on the blade carriage, and the was. All you need to do is disengage blade drive, lower blade carriage and follow the diagram. no need to unscew or loosen anything. No tools required!

I believe you may have the belt over one or more of the belt retainers next to the pulleys. They are 5 or 6 inches long and about a 1/4 inch in diameter. You have to loosen them when you put the belt on then adjust them to where they are just barely touching the back of the belt. They keep the belt from jumping off.
