Hopefully, you went into your tv menu and switched it to HDMI 1 port if it doesn't switch automatically,
There is a separate IC on the main board that does nothing but process the HDMI signal, basically if your using the cable, AVI or any other input other than HDMI and chances are that is bad, it can be replaced if you have a lot of electronic experience, its a $3 chip but its not easy to replace..I would replace the main board if you can find one, sometimes main boards are hard to find..below is a link to the service manual.

Copied from another forum: "On the PS3 from Standby (red light on) depress the power button till you hear two beeps. That will reset the resolution and you should get a picture." MANY THANKS to the original poster!

This sounds like your lamp failed and opened you thermal fuse. 6 blinks is open thermal fuse and that would normally only open if your lamp failed. Replacing the lamp is simple, but the thermal fuse is a very difficult repair with considerable disassembly.
SOURCE: Connect PS3 for playing/viewing blue-ray thru surround sound
I just finished setting up my system last night and was facing similar problems with sound/video from my PS3. The only option I could get working was to have the HDMI cable connected from the PS3 to the TV and then connect the Optical cable to the receiver for sound. I was under the impression that HDMI handles sound and video but for whatever reason the PS3 does not agree.
I have DTS sound and fantastic picture now through my PS3, hope this helps.
Cheers

With your PS3 on standby (red light) hold the on/off button down until it goes green and then back to red. This restores your PS3 to "factory settings", i.e. it is waiting for you to tell it how you want it to connect to your TV. Now disconnect any HDMI cables you may be trying to use and connect your PS3 to your TV via a scart connection. Now switch your PS3 on and turn to your AV channel and you should have both sound and pictures.
