Hi, I have a 32LC2D LG LCD TV that's about 4yrs. old. When you first turn it on everything seems fine. Then after it warms up the picture and sound go. What's the typical cause? How easy is it to fix and what parts do I need and where do I find them? Thanks for you help. Ed

Your TV is about 5 years old.
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.

If you can darken the room when first turn set on and have sound, take a small light (flashlight) and examine the screen, DO YOU see a faint image of the picture on the sets screen?

Most use a back light and it may not be coming on correctly.

Check the capactors on the power supply. I changed C208 because it was bugled on the top I put a 25 volt in place of the 16 volt. The green light should flash 7 times then picture is present. See http

I hate to tell you this, but 4 years oldis just about right for it to break down, they just do not make it last like an old TV any more.
There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

Contact your LG dealer to request a service call out, it is very possible the operating software requires to be updated to the latest version especially if you have had the TV for quite a while. Once this is done if the problem still persists then there will be a problem with the audio processor & this will need replacing.

It turn out to be a $10 diode on the mainboard, which cost me $100 to have troubleshot and repaired

While you have sound, take a flashlight and shine it on the screen, look very close and see if you can see a dark video image.
