Opener has power but does not open.

My garage was hit by lightning and knocked out two outlets. The outlet to the garage door opener seems to be ok as it still has power. The sensors on either side of the door have power also as well as the push button by the back door. Despite everything looking normal, the door does not open. When I push the button by the back door, I do hear a click coming from the opener.

The surge probably knocked out one (or more) of the safety sensors.
There may also be a fault on any control board involved.

Each of these components (including the main drive motor) will need checking that they are still working correctly.

Only by a process of elimination will you find the fault. This can be done by checking the outputs of each sensor in turn, and testing operation.

Make sure the system is isolated before atempting this, and ensure a safe working practice is followed.
It's not worth losing fingers over!

Once the fault is found, do not use untill a replacement is fitted.

Hope this helps.

How to open genie 1/2 hp garage opener for light bulb

Set a step ladder under the power head of the garage door opener so you can reach the power cord and the lens cover safely.
Climb the ladder and pull the power cord from the outlet in the ceiling. Press the two lens tabs in to disengage the lens from the power head. The lens tabs are below the opener rail on the upper corners of the lens. Pull the lens cover straight off of the power head.
Unscrew the light bulb from the light socket. Use a new 60 watt bulb to replace the defective bulb. Do not use a short neck bulb. Screw the new bulb into the light socket just as you would a regular lamp socket.
Slide the lens cover back over the front of the power head. Push the lens cover in until the locking tabs engage the top corners of the lens cover.
Plug the Genie garage door opener power cord back into the ceiling electrical outlet.

Lightning may have hit garage opener. Not working anything I can check

Lightning loves logic boards. You can remove the board and check for missing traces on the printed circuit. Unfortunately this is fairly common.

Door will not go up or down. Lights do not come on.

The power is not feeding to your opener. Something is either A) wrong with the outlet you are using to power your opener or B) the opener has malfunctioned. Test your outlet to make sure it has active current. If there is any programming issues with this opener, it should have flashing lights at least.

Garage door opener is not working . What is there to say? I connot electronicly open my garage door. I have already checked the batteries, and they are OK

If the wall control is not working along with your remotes you need to check for basic power to the unit. Check the house circuit breaker and the outlet. Plug a lamp into the outlet to see if you have power.

Same problem same day

Unfortunately there isn't a reset switch but I would pull the logic board and look for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit board. Electronics do not like lightning.

Intermittant problem

Look at the lights on the safety eyes also. If all of these lights go off at the same time, there is definately a power issue. It is either an issue with the electical outlet or the circuit board.

Both openers stopped working at the same time but they are both plugged in to an outlet that still has power. The lights are out on the opener wall switches. Wife thought she smelled electrical smoke when...

what openers? Sears/liftmaster of last 2 years have no reset. Sure power to outlet? Try a lamp. Did a gfi trip. Did wife run both doors to overheat them. they should cool off in 15 minutes. Do you have a surge protector. Did it go bad. Some kill power when they get cooked. Did you have a lightning storm. Culd have cooked logic boards.

Chamberlain Craftsman garage door opener

Replace the logic board. I have seen this problem in the field. More often than not it's due to power surge or lightning strike.
