My slot-load SuperDrive doesn't seem to want to accept CD-ROMs or DVDs. It's done that with dirty or damaged CDs but now with any I try to load - seems to try to read, then ejects disk.

Thanks. That does seem to be at least part of the problem. I've been able to load and copy a couple of CDs to iTunes and view a PowerPoint from a CD-ROM, so it appears the problem is the type of CD-ROM I was trying to use. I was afraid that my DVD drive was going bad and had cleaned it.

Kim,  I'm glad you asked this.  I have had problems with my superdrive as well.  What I found out through persistent research is this:     The new Superdrives can take CD+R and DVD+R.  (I am assuming you are asking about recording?   However, the older models of Superdrives ---usually found in Powerbook G4s, can take CD-R and DVD-R.  These are different from the first ones ini that they are slower to burn, and just a few gb short of space than the +.  this should help solve the problem with taking new cds and dvds for burning.  The superdrive tends to just spit these right back out.  If you are referring to playing them, then have you tried cleaning the dirty ones?  Check the help section at www.apple.com.  they have wonderful solutions.  Try to put in a couple new cds or dvds to play.  Open up itunes or the dvd player before you put the disks in.  If you're still having trouble, make use of that warranty and go to your nearest apple store to fix it right up! Hope this helps!

Superdrive will not accept discs into the slot

Replace the drive. Unless you already have and disc stuck inside, in which case eject that one :-)

When i put a dvd in my hitachi htdk185uk it says unknown disc what does this mean

Either a DVD with the wrong region code has been loaded, and your player doesn't recognise it, or you have inserted a disc which is either rewritable (or an incompatible format for your player), a blank DVD or CD, or the disc has not been finalised in a DVD recorder. It depends on the disc(s) you have, whether they are region coded or those using a compatible playback format (finalised DVD-Rs are the best as far as burned copies go).

Examples of incompatible formats for your player may include;
DVD-ROMs
DVD-RAMs (which are the wrong version/speed for your unit)
Mini-DVDs/CDs
CD-RWs
DVDs with a different region code to your player or rewritable discs

* When using shop-bought DVDs, including those purchased online, make sure their region code matches your player.

The DVD-VCR unit won't accept any DVD - blank or with content. It says "LOAD" but then ejects the DVD. Same DVD works in an identical Samsung unit in another room.

You may have a dirty lens on the DVD read head. There are CD/DVD cleaning kits available at some drug stores and electronic stores. Do not get a "CD cleaning kit" (that only cleans the discs), get a "CD/DVD lens cleaning kit" (it will have a special CD and cleaning solution) for $10 to $20.
If that's not it the DVD illumination LED may be dead. If it still plays CDs, but won't play DVDs, that's the problem. There are separate LEDs for playing CDs and DVDs.
Either way, if the cleaning doesn't work, it has to be fixed in an electronics shop.

Restore CD

You don't need a "restore" cd.

You can just use any copy of Tiger.

Borrow one!

Can operate with CD ROM's. Won't recognize DVD's.

Sounds like the drive could be going bad. The way the laser reads DVDs vs. CDs is different, that is why you are able to read one, not the other. I had this happen to me, except the opposite. It could read DVDs, not CDs. Had to buy a new one, and all is well.

Apple Book G4 won t play or accept Cds Cd R and DVDs

You could try a cleaning disk if nothing is recognized. Something like THIS ONE at Buy.com. You might need a new drive though, which is pretty tricky with an apple. Someone on Craigslist should be able to replace it for about $50 plus the drive. You can find a used drive on eBay I'm sure.

I want to play mini cds in a standard slot drive in laptop.

You should notice in your cd tray a smaller cutout in the center. That is specifically for mini cds.
