I have a Weil-McLain hot water boiler for baseboard heat. The system has one circulator pump. The system has 5 zones - 3 work fine and two are not working. All the zone valves and thermostats are Honeywell and have 2 wires going to the thermostats. For problem zone #1, when the thermostate is raised the zone valve opens but the boiler does not fire. I know the zone opens because I can hear it open with my ear next to the valve and the room gets heat, but only when another zone is turned on to get the boiler turned going. For problem zone #2, nothing happens when the thermostat is raised - zone valve does not open (no noise can be heard from the valve at all) and boiler does not fire. I checked the wiring and all zones are wired the same, with two zones going to the boiler through one transformer and the three others going through a second transformer. I thought that I might have a bad transformer that was causing the boiler to not fire, but one of the zones that does cause the boil to fire is wired through the same transformer as the two that don't work. I'm inclined to believe that the "problem zone #2" (the one that doesn't work at all) has a bad zone valve that needs to be replaced, but that won't address the issue with the boiler not firing. I have replaced all 5 thermostats, but still have the same problem with these two zones.

SOURCE: How tough is it to install a new tankless coil in

There will be a screw or nut that holds the whole control in place. The probe is very short. When changing the coil, make sure you have a clean surface on the boiler where the new gasket will mate. You can use some high temperature silicon to hold the gasket in place but just use a minimal amount. Too much and as you tighten the bolts, it will push out the new gasket. Before attempting to loosen the bolts, spray them with penetrating oil a day prior to the repair. An impact wrench will quickly loosen the bolts if you can use one.

We have a W. McLain CG, small house, just 1 zone so no zone valve. How do I get the pressure back up, it is too low and heat is not reaching the back room

Boilers are set at 180 degrees which gives between 550 and 600 degrees per foot of baseboard depending on the brand. You can change the aquastat setting to 200 degrees which will give more heat, but that may not be your problem. Your system may not be balanced properly. If there is too much baseboard(BB) near the thermostat, it may shut down the boiler before it is warm in the back room. You can close the dampers near where the stat is, and fully open the dampers in the cold room. There is also the possibility that you need to purge some air from the system.
The best solution would be to split off with another zone if none of this works. I'm assuming you have a CG-3, but what size is your house? Is there an indirect fired water heater that uses the boiler to heat domestic water? If you have a cg-3 and your house is over 1000 sq feet, then your boiler is undersized. Good luck!

Make : Weil-McLain Model : CG-5-SPDN Series 12 I have the above mentioned boiler which is located on the 1st level of a three story one family house, the area where the boiler is located is insulated.

You don't have an optimum distribution of steam in your house. Try closing a little bit the valves supplying the heaters in the lower floors. Close a little bit more until you get the desired balance.

MY APARTMENT HAS ELECTRIC WATER BASEBOARD HEATING SYSTEM, I found out the heat cannot be turned off even I disconnect the honeywell thermostats (only one on the wall for the whole unit - living room and 2...

Okay couple questions here because either you have hot water baseboards or you have electric baseboard heaters.
- if the system is a hydronic baseboard heater fed form main boiler, usually this means your space heat is controlled by a zone valve which the zone valve is controlled by your thermostat.
-if you find the zone is controlled by a zone valve than it is possible the zone valve is defective causing hot water to bleed past the zone valve even though your t-stat is telling it to close.
- first find out what excatly the baseboard is heated by either water or electricity
-next personal message me and I can walk you through it

Amtrol 41 hot water maker :not working when calling for hot water, contols are on showing temp, but tank is cold.oil fired boiler is fine, the whole system is 5 yrs old.

Hi,
The problem is probably with the circulator pump or the zone valve, which ever way your water circulating from the boiler is controled.
The water needs to be moved through the boiler and the coils in the Hot water maker to heat water. If this is not happening then no water will be heated.
Check for power and then is the pump is running or the zone valve opening.
I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Furnace firing. Plenty of hot water. No heat.

Most Boiler and zone controlled systems I can remember working on with up to 8 or so zones, the Bell&Gossett circulating supply pumps or pump ran all of the time to keep the upstairs baseboards warm.If you have a relay that controls the pump, see if you can bypass it and if it comes on, replace it. Be sure all of the coils on the zone valves are energized and opening, if it is set up that way.Get back to me and let me know.
Sincerely, Shastalaker7
