I think you should go with the one that has a built-in print server. The main reason is that the build-in print server will allow you to view the status of the printer such as the ink level, page count and paper jam location. It will also allow you to configure the printer remotely with a userfriendly interface.

An external print server will only enable you to print through the network and not configure the printer.

According to Brother's web site, the price difference between the 2140 and the 2170 is about $30. An external print server usualy cost more than that.

Hope this helps.

Because web based management requires the TCP/IP protocol for communication, any reset option you see when managing the machine with a web browser, will not reset the IP address details that are set. If you wish to totally reset all the print server parameters we recommend you reset the print server by using the BRAdmin application.
To reset the print server (excluding TCP/IP parameters) follow these steps:
  1. Connect to the printer using a web browser.
  2. Click Network Configuration.
  3. Enter the print server password (the print server password is detailed in the user guide for the print server) if it's applicable.
  4. Click the Set Default link or Reset Print Server.
Via the control panel (only for network ready models)
  1. Make sure the machine is not operating, then disconnect all the cables from the machine (except power cable).
  2. Press the Menu or Menu/Set key on the control panel.
  3. Press up or down navigation key to select LAN or Network and press Set, Menu/Set or OK.
  4. Press up or down navigation key to select Factory Reset or Network Reset and press Set, Menu/Set or OK.
  5. Select Reset.
  6. Select Yes.
  7. The machine will re-start, re-connect cables once this is complete.

Hello I would like to buy a compatible print server for my hp officejet 4255 all in one, because I want to share it among several pc-desktops connected to a router in wi-fi. Netgear says they do not...

What you want is the HP 2101NW
Unfortunately, this product has been discontinued by HP themselves, but you may be able to find a store that has old stock, or find one on EBAY.
The easier solution is to share it across the network from a workstation that is always on, or make a print server workstation out of an old PC or laptop that will do nothing but share the printer across the network.
You can buy an older PC to use for this function cheaper in many cases than buying a standalone print server. I did this myself for ages using a laptop I picked up for $50. The laptop wasn't good for much more than a print server, but as a print server it worked flawlessly. The laptop would wirelessly connect to the network and was USB wired to the printer, which it shared across the network.
NOTE: you will be limited to PRINT ONLY under these situations.
If I recall correctly, the only way to have full functionality is with the 2101NW which as I said is now discontinued, but was an amazing product in it's day!

Does anyone know where to get drivers for a Brother MFC 7340 for windows server 2003? I have found windows server 2000, xp, vista, and windows 7 drivers but not server 2003.

If there is no driver ... that means the OS does not support the hardware. Your options are ... Microsoft, Brother, third party or learn how to program and write one. You can appeal to MS and Brother ... my guess is they will not likely write a new driver for a 7 year old OS.

Does the MFC 7340 have a ethernet connection? You might be able to print to it as a network device through a 'qualifying' computer ... Copy the document from the computer running Server 2003 to a XP or other computer and print from there ... just an idea.

Wingdings prints on Brother HL2170W

When printing using Terminal Server, the print driver needs to be installed on the server itself. If you have a printer that doesn't have the driver installed on the server, it will either not print at all or it will use the "fallback driver", which is something set by the person who administers the server. Thus, it may be trying to use an HP driver to print to a Brother printer, which won't work. Ask the administrator to install the Brother driver on the server and it should work at that point.

Problem with Canon I-SENSYS MF 4150

After several days of researching the same problem for the MF4150, the conclusion is that you have to use an Axis or Silex brand print server developed specifically for Canon. Both have been reported to provide Print/Scan/Fax multi-functionality, but it seems Silex is the one Canon really supports (it's only sold on their website) and is most likely to be the least problematic.
